You can try to nuance it all you want, but when you refer to someone as a black bastard, that is a perjorative phrase. This is common sense stuff. DUH!

perjorative yes because of the term "bastard". but there is nothing wrong with being black. so it is not racist unless that was the intent, which it wasnt. like if i say a dude is a big tall idiot. the tall part isnt the insult.
It's dangerous to guess somebody's intent. So you go by what someone says, which is why it's wise to consider words carefully. Not everybody who one calls Obama a "black bastard" is going to understand that we gets a free pass if we likes us some soul food. Well, the whole post was a clear political and personal condemnation of Obama. That's fine, it's his right and I never objected to it. It ain't about Salty, its about your notion that a racial insult is only a racial insult if it is intended to be one, as if anyone can know this. Can't you see that if someone uses race as part of an insult, he clearly suggest that his race is something he has an issue with. Everybody understands this . . . or they should.
I never said he was throwing out bigoted insults. I never addressed Salty's post at all. I challenged martins flat statement that black bastard is not a bigoted insult. You are assuming everything else. I have no idea if Salty intended to make a bigoted insult or if he even realizes that he might have. I certainly have no evidence to call him bigoted. Never have and have no plans to. Salty's business. I do have a strong opinion on martins theory on bigoted insults, though, and that I what I addressed.
