Ivan Maisel has a little piece on who he thinks is the best one loss team and his pick for who may have the best chance of making the Rose bowl.

    He says

LSU may be the best of the one-loss lot, but Penn State has the best combination of talent and a safe road to remain with only one loss.

My question is who do you think is the best one loss team. I think it is rather close and not sure if there is a clear cut answer.

In about 2 weeks, many will be saying the Tigers are withiout a doubt the best 1-loss team.

This is an easy question with all the media here in Dallas...
Clearly TTech is the best one loss team and Texas is just that good. :hihi:

Seriously, I have LSU and Miami as the best one loss teams. Both will be tested soon. Not impressed with Penn State.

Penn State is going to lose to Wisconsin and Michigan State.

I'd love to say LSU is the best of the 1 loss teams and would also love to say LSU has the best chance of the 1 loss teams to make it to the Rose Bowl, but the 21 point collapse to Tenn still scares me.

Tenn is 3-4 probably will be 3-5 after a trip to South Bend this weekend and other than 2 quarters (+OT) against us where they scored 30 points they have not scored any points against anyone.

I think we are better team now then when we played Tenn but we really have not had anything that would approach a road test since AZ State (another 4 loss team btw).

The Bama game will be a real test for this team and the coaching staff, I think we win it and if we do should win out and get a chance to play UGA in the SECCG, but if/until Miami loses (which they could v VT this weekend) I think they are the best of the 1 loss teams currently.

Another question is should VT, Texas, or USC lose would LSU be a better 1 loss team than any of those 3?

IF LSU beats Bama & Miami beats VTech, that's a close call... I would have to say LSU though because our offense has been inconsistent, but still has looked better than Miami's. I don't think it comes down to any 2 other teams right now. Things could change very soon though.

Depending on how they lost and who they lost to would be a big factor in deciding. I would probably give the edge to all three though above LSU barring a blowout or serious injury to one of their star players. I would still like LSU's chances if we played one of those three but I know we'd be underdogs.

I don't know what he means by "best combination of talent". LSU is hardly a one-trick pony riding an awesome defense/bad offense or awesome offense/bad defense to win after win.

LSU is a very well rounded team, even in ST.

That being said, he's right about PSU having an easier road to a 10-1 season...but no way does a 10-1 PSU finish ahead of an 11-1 LSU.

Silly Big 11: Those conference title games *do* count in the eyes of the BCS.

wisconsin is pretty bad and pretty lucky. all they can do is run and their d sucks. Saw the Minnesota debacle. gophers up 10 with 2 mins and lost. calhoun the wisci RB is fun to watch but hes about all they have. psu will beat this team.

penn state team is quite explosive and are impressive at times even with the loss of williams their frosh stud WR. I figured theyd collapse after his inury but they are solid on defense as well.

Mich St can light up the scoreboard too. should be a great game against but im thinking Joepa takes both games. he surely has amassed a great freshman/soph class which is carrying this team. i wonder where they ranked in recruiting the last couple of years.

on subject, I think west virginia is one of the better one loss teams out there. they hung with vatech the entire game til a late turnover and score by the hokies made it misleading. they had a shot for the upset. they also beat louisville and maryland. at least one of those was on the road maybe both.

btw, they play tonight against uconn i think. rich rodriguez may not have to call a pass all night. they like to run at all costs. uconns offense is horrible. rodriguez runs that power spread offense (not to be confused with urban myth's spread option) which is fun to watch when done correctly. wvu's problem is they cant pass when they have to similarly to wisconsin though they have one of the better rush defenses in the country. they miss rasheed marshall and likely nfl bust pac man jones.
