Based on a 13-0 record and the teams ranked on our schedule when we played them, is this the best LSU team ever no matter what happens on the 9th?
It's all about the chamionship. Don't matter because we are gonna win anyway and the answer to your question will certainly be "yes." :crystal::crystal::crystal:
It's the best LSU team that I have ever seen, no doubt. When we win on January 9th the question will be: Is this the best team in college football history? And the answer to that question, IMHO, will be a resounding YES! GEAUX TIGERS!
Record wise 14-0 and a second crystal football in the last 4 years would be impressive. But to say the best college football team ever, I don't think so.
I guess to say best team ever is a subjective assumption that could be argued from many different directions so your point is well taken. Having said that, this team would have to be named in the argument. I don't want to hijack this thread because it is a good one but who else would you put into that debate about who is the best team ever?
We've been known to hijack a thread or two over the years. When we beat Bama in 10 days I will agree that we are probably the best LSU team ever. Certainly above the 2003 and 2007 teams and probably better than the 1958 team. I'm an old fart who's been watching college football for 40+ years. There are some Nebraska, OU, USC, Miami and yes even Bama teams that belong in the best ever discussion.
Agreed. You could make a pretty good case for any of these teams during their respective eras as they were each dominant in their time.
Yes, but I am fairly certain not one of them had to beat 8 ranked teams in one season. Additionally, at least the BCS pits 1 v 2, something that usually did not happen adding to the subjectivity of many of those NC teams. If the 2011-12 Tigers beat Bama, I would personally consider this the best college football season by a team in history. If they don't win, then they still achieved probably best LSU team since the '58 Tigers.
I'm not arguing with you when I say this, but... Could you name the team that had a better single season based on record, dominating wins, and strength of schedule? I'll hang up and listen...
Well obviously no team is going to have a better season record. As far as your other two categories the Nebraska 71 team comes to mind, the Nebraska team of 95, the Army team of 45, the USC team of 72, the Miami team of 2001. You know better than anyone that it's difficult to compare teams from different eras because of all the variables. It does make for interesting dicussion while waiting for Jan 9th to get here.
