Brad Edwards quote on the BCS I hope that this particular scenario doesn't play out, but I would sure love to see playoffs instead of the BCS. Brad Edwards: There have been a lot of things go dreadfully wrong for the BCS in the last five years, and none of that has brought about a playoff. But I do believe that a second straight season with the preseason #1 and #2 teams both running the table should be a strong sign that something needs to change. You have to give the other undefeated teams a chance to play for the title whenever that happens! I think the best scenario to expediate change would be for Georgia and Alabama to both be undefeated going into the SEC Championship and the winner not reach the BCS title game. After what happened to Auburn last year, the SEC would start the ball rolling toward a playoff if this scenario played out. Whether the other conferences would be interested is another story.
Re: Brad Edwards quote on the BCS Maybe the SEC should do that no matter what. Getting shut out is costing the SEC money. The payoff for the BCS game is not chump change compared to the other bowls. In most Playoff scenarios more money would be raised. Not Less. You are talking about 2 or 3 extra games with T.V. advertising rates challenging the Super Bowl. Why are the Presidents so against more money. Isnt that why they like winning programs with packed stadiums. Tell me it isnt for the scholarships they are able to provide for students. Most programs have a sponser for their bathrooms and toilet paper. College football is all about the money now.
Re: Brad Edwards quote on the BCS If the SEC champ doesn't make it to the Rose Bowl, they'll represent the SEC in the Sugar bowl, which is a BCS bowl game........
What a terrible scenario, but he's correct in saying that the best way to get the ball rolling on change is to have the SEC instigate it. The SEC is the 900 pound gorilla of major conferences, and if it gets four-square behind some sort of playoff, well, the chances of real change taking place go up at the very least.
The only solice BCS honks can give SEC fans if the SEC is shut out of the NC game is 2 BCS slots. If TX and USC win out - they are in the Rose Bowl regardless of anything onyone in the SEC does. If the BCS picks up, say - a 1 loss LSU and a 1 loss GA or Bama - I'd be cool with that scenario.
