Had Miles used that same philosophy with running the ball on every down in 2011 LSU would probably have another national title, because everyone on the planet knew they were going to run the ball.
Fakes work when the opponent lines up wrong. The toss over the shoulder to the kicker worked when the defense hedged to the inside. Once we became known as a team that will run the fake, teams stopped doing that. Running a fake right into a tackler makes no sense at all.
Fakes don't work when you do the same thing over and over. How many times have you been watching a game and screamed fake before it happened? Some are glaringly obvious but still work. Just like regular plays, well designed plays work, poorly designed plays don't. Fakes shouldn't happen often, but LSU has totally abandoned them. Hopefully BDP will bring some well designed plays and a little willingness to use them.
