BATON ROUGE — When the LSU Tigers board the team plane to fly to the Final Four in Indianapolis, the plan is for coach John Brady's mentor to be with them.

Former Belhaven coach Charlie Rugg is a constant influence on Brady. And not one day goes by when Brady doesn't wish the big-college world knew what the small-college world knows about Rugg.

So how in the world can Brady take his first steps on college basketball's grandest stage without Rugg there with him?

"It's an appreciation, a thank you, a show of respect, anything you want to call it," said Brady, who played basketball for Rugg from 1973-76. "He's going to be in the big-time for five days, right next to us."
