I'm gonna step away from all of the distractions we've been faced with this week, and attempt to talk about something else....football. Just watched some gameday stuff on ESPN2 and in their "Rank or Yank" segment, where Trev Alberts and Mark May take a look at the AP poll and do their own adjustments to it. While May rearranged some teams, Trev made a stance that, surprisingly enough, I have been saying for years--preseason polls should not exist. Sure, they do wonders for boosting morale, etc. for some teams, but Alberts said the same thing I did at the end of last season and that's if Auburn hadn't begun the year ranked 17th, they would have had a better chance at playing in the National Title game. Unless you're ranked in the top 15 (like in our situation in '03), you have to have MAJOR help from teams ahead of you (in that they must lose) in order for you to be given a chance. We were lucky enough in '03 to be ranked within reaching distance to be able to make it to the BCS game--but even then, it was close. The sky MUST be falling because Alberts said something that I actually agree with: that polls should NOT come out until week 4 (the new Harris poll is doing just that), but in terms of the AP, I think waiting is the best thing. Wondering what were your thoughts on the situation.
my question is why the hell is Nick Lachey Simpson on Gameday now? it is bad enough with superdill Trev, now Mr Jessica Simpson?
If you listen closely, he actually kinda/sorta knows what he is saying... I'll take him over Trev and Mark sometimes
The BCS poll coming out late was kinda like a blind date. Everybody else knew what they had and then you show up with your and from that time on become the talk of the town. The earlier polls are part of what makes the entire season sexy. I would like to see the voters votes made public all year. Sort of a bulletin board test for credibility.
