1. Anyone have their own cable modem as opposed to renting one from the cable provider. I have rented forever, but think that is kind of dumb. Owning my own should save money, over time, but more importantly, I can probably buy a better product than I rent.

I think we have had the same one for 10+ years. I know the cable companies have lists of models that are compatible.

    Any thoughts?
  2. bought mine at amazon a couple of years ago....Comcast keeps trying to make me pay a lease fee on my modem so I have to email a copy of my receipt from time to time

pain in the ass but I get a smug sense of satisfaction from it

    fuggers
  3. Are you able to access the Comcast programming with your own modem?
  4. Can anyone answer my question? TIA
  5. Yes. Amazon or other retailers will have what you need. Just search for Comcast cable modem. it would be a good idea to visit Comcast to check for latest model etc to reference
  6. go to walmart, buy a $50 dollar modem. basically every one they have will work fine. 10 years old is terrible. the one now will be half as large, 10x as fast and reliable, and a quarter as hot. go buy it right now.
