Carl Nicks is likely not a Saint next year

    Brees will eat up a lot of cap room... This will be his last contract, so he is getting what he can. Unfortunate because it will make him less likely to get another SB.

    This was the Saints starting o'line for the meat of the '11 schedule, with how they entered the NFL:

    Carl Nicks, 5th round pick
    Brian de la Puente, undrafted free agent
    Jahri Evans, 4th round pick
    Jermon Bushrod, 4th round pick
    Zack Streif, 7th round pick

    While I hope we find a way to keep Nicks, the Saints have demonstrated they can find talent, often in places no one else seems to be looking (Evans from Bloomsburg St, Bushrod from Towson). We'll be fine.

    Can't we hurry up and sign Brees and slap the franchise on Nicks?

    I think that's what they would like to happen. Really didn't think the Brees deal would drag out this long, though.

    Who gives a f*ck? lol No player wants the franchise tag. They can't do much about it though.

    He has also said that he wants to stay in New Orleans, but that won't happen without a franchise tag so :/

    correct

    I still see Brees' deal getting done by March 5th, which means we slap the tag on Nicks and work out a deal later in the next few months before the season starts.

    Brees will sign a 2012 cap friendly deal so we can sign both.

    Yeah I don't ever remember reading or hearing about a player saying. "I sure am thankful they put the franchise tag on me"
