Xavier Carter won the 200 meter final in the the NCAA Regional meet as he again beat Spearman of Arkansas while winning in the outside lane just like he did in the SEC meet.

Wow, no telling how fast this guy is going to go by the time he's a senior, if he stays that long.

He could be one of the all time greats if he chooses track.

His football career at LSU might actually hurt him in track. He will be expected to bulk up a bit for football, whereas with track you need to stay slimmer (even muscle-wise, thats why most college seniors are slower than they were as freshmen).

Have you seen the X-Man lately? They had a picture of him on the lsusports.net site yesterday. He was ANYTHING BUT "slim". He was chiseled!

I saw him on TV running the indoor 60m a few weeks back. He didn't win, but he looked like a man among boys. He was SO MUCH bigger than all the other runners -- it was scary looking.

He's as big as he'll need to be for football. He's got nowhere to go but UP (or, "down" in terms of his track times).

Here's the lsusports.net picture --

He is at about 195 right now, he will need to get up to about 210 or so eventually... most of that comes in the upper body, helps you work off of jams and run block.. while ripped, he isnt big, and big is what you have to be at WR now-a-days... that will eventually slow him down a bit... he will still be extremely fast, but it works against his track strategy..

It is an awesome performance by the young Tiger. Considering that he only ran a couple meets in the outdoor and out ran Spearmon who owned the world fastest time in 200 this year.

Exactly how good was Carter this weekend:
He ran the 2nd fastest time in the world this year, beating the guy who had run the fasted time so far. Out of lane 8 by the way, which means the whole race he never saw anyone else in front of him. Just for reference only 32 guys have run as fast or faster in history. And some of times were wind-aided, Carter ran with 0 mph wind. And althought I can't check this I would be surprised if very few if or any of those guys ran as fast out of line 8. I know most people here are not really track fans but next year you all should go out to Bernie Moore and see him run at least once. Of course I also hope to see him run into the endzone a few times across the street next fall.

He doesn't have to get any bigger than he is.

Look for another football Tiger to one day compete in the Olympics (ala Bennie Brazelle)!

Way to go, X-man!
