What an idiot! These people don't dissect all the data. I don't doubt the play call at all because Byrd and coaches saw how he could get open. A similar play was made earlier in the game with Byrd making a long completion. If the pass was incomplete there would've been at least 2-3 seconds left because an incomplete pass will be called quicker than the TD catch. Instead of commenting on the amount of time the players took breaking the huddle, they just say the Miles an idiot for the call. They don't cover the fact that Colt is a little shakey on the long distance shots. What about the logic of taking 2 tries to score versus one try. I get tired of the columnist bashing Miles. The only praise he has gotten this year was going for all the 4th downs against UF and the fake FG against USC. Other than that, he is playing with Sabans players and he makes terrible calls.:angryfire http://www.sportsline.com/spin/story/10429529
I don't know that he gets such a bad rap. Sports columnists like to be dramatic and entertaining so when they criticize sometimes it seems a little over the top but consider who their core audience is.....most of them are the same ones that chant profanity laced chants on national tv. Not exactly a subtle group of thinkers....(what the hell, they're kids....) I think Miles gets a lot of good press for being unpredictable and gutsy and zigging when the others zag. LSU all in all is pretty popular as far as a program goes. If LSU takes care of business on the football field they will in all probability play for a MNC. It doesn't get any better than this so enjoy, brother. We are the king of the castle, at the moment. Here's hoping things stay this way for a while.LSU!
I get his point and thought he made a convincing argument for the crazy part but not the dumb because strategic risk outweighs reward. He does get mucho points for using the word Brylcreem like 50 times. Besides, rich people aren't crazy, they're ecentric. Later, Fur
The call itself wasn't loco -- it was the clock management. The call was solid, as that was no chip shot field goal.
NoLimitMD, my sentiments exactly. And believe me, Miles had it all planned out that the play start with about 14-16 seconds, not 8-9 seconds left on the clock. You can bank they are talking clock management in these 2 weeks leading up to Bama. Look for that to be corrected and NOT be an issue next Saturday Night.
I wonder if people watching this game without sound would have a different view than listening to mike patrick's insane comments. the public is very impressionable and his over the top remarks about going for the td instead of the fg made no sense yet was echoed by all reporters and fans everywhere. of course you take a shot in the endzone. of course you have time put back on the clock if it had kept running to zero. clearly 3-4 seconds would have been added. cmon people. think for yourselves. these guys are often idiots. As nlmd said, the playcalling was perfect, the time management sucked. the disappointing thing was blackledge nodding in agreement not really speaking out when he knew differently. TB is very good and simply bites his tongue far too much at times. it seems mike patrick has become worse lately. almost like the demise of gottfried aka stroke victim. what would ron franklin do?
