The College Football Playoff will stay at four teams until the current contract expires in 2026, executive director Bill Hancock announced Friday.

Despite a proposal to expand the playoff to 12 teams, the CFP Board of Managers recommended the playoff remain at four teams for the duration of the 12-year contract.

“The Board of Managers has accepted a recommendation from the Management Committee to continue the current four-team playoff for the next four years, as called for in the CFP’s original 12-year plan,” Hancock said in a statement. “At the same time, the Board expects the Management Committee to continue its discussions of a new format that would go into effect for the 2026-27 season.
  2. Good. There are rarely 4 teams that are good enough for the way it is.

  3. i just want more games
  4. I think it's only a matter of time before they expand it to make it much larger. There's just too much money being left on the table for them not to take advantage of it. College football is all about making money, period! Let's face it, bowl games have lost so much luster over the years, but by incorporating these bowls into the playoff, it immediately gives them credibility because it will feature two highly ranked teams playing for a spot to advance in the playoffs. Fan interest will shoot through the roof and so will national exposure, which means more money for all parties involved.

  7. SHIT!!! Now who's going to fund the NIL? :p;)
  8. Bigger pie but more slices. Suspect the real reason they are foot dragging is they dont want to end up with 3-4 SEC teams in contention. Means SEC takin a quarter of that sucker.
  9. Maybe waiting for the NCAA to implode/be replaced by super-conferences.
  10. Naw, I dont think they GaF what NCAA does at this point. Its notable the ACC was the most vocal opponent to expansion. My point was SEC prob has highest chance of slipping in 3 or greater. Next up would be B10.
