http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2005/Preview/AA_RunningBacks.htm No LSU runningbacks in the list of the top 25 in the country... you gotta be effin' kidding me...
We haven't had a feature back that piles up stats. The writers scan the stats to pick out A-A prospects and LSU's RB numbers just don't stand out.
It's not a knock on our talent. I think CFN picked our rbs as the strongest group in the SEC. They are just looking at our philosophy. We use our backs situationally. Maybe if one returned punts and kicks they would have a chance. But at least up to this point our backs don't consistently get 20+ carries. It wouldnt surprise me if we didn't have 1000 yard rusher this year. It also wouldn't surprise me if we had 3 backs in the 750 range. JV only had such a big year 2003 because Joe and Shy were hurt and Alley wasn't ready.
Williams and Brown were all-everything last year at Auburn. The best two backs in the league, many said. Both were NFL first-round draft picks. But LSU had the best running backfield in the league last year. Even though their individual stats did not appear among the leaders, LSU led the SEC in rushing. And all four running backs return, as well as both fullbacks, and all five offensive linemen. LSU backs may not make all SEC this year, much less all-American. But they will lead the SEC in rushing again. If a passing game emerges, LSU's offense is going to be a handfull for SEC defenses.
Very good point. However, that was under Saban. Miles usually used a premeir back at Oklahoma St. That was probably due to a lack of depth more than his philosophy though. Miles has said that he will use all the backs, but has stressed that he really likes Addai. I think Addai & Broussard will each be able to get around 900 yards this season. It does seem wierd that we are be hyped up as one of the most talented teams in the country, but some of our individual players aren't getting that much recognition.
That just makes me think of the New England Patriots and look what they've been able to do. Sure, having All-Americans on your team is nice, but to be honest with you, I'd rather have a team that is talented at every position with players who don't get much recognition, rather than a team who rides on the coattails of one or two "superstar" type players. Besides, not getting any recognition will just make these young guys want to play harder so they can show the naysayers they were wrong. I'm seeing VERY good things about this team this year. I definitely think this is the most talented team LSU has ever fielded.
I think that the fact that LSU has 4 backs that I'm not gunna say could start anywhere else, but are all going to get major time this season, hurts them in any preseason awards races. I honestly can't see a 1000 yard rusher unless 1 of them just goes nuts against some of the garbage teams like Appy St.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to locoguano again. wow, good call on that one.
