In his 3rd year at LSU, John Chavis appears to be in his comfort zone with the type players he needs to exact the kind of dominating defense he imagined when he came to LSU back in 2009.

The speedy smallish linebackers, the ultra quick DEs and athletic big men in the middle. The punishing safeties and super athletic cornerbacks.

    It's all come to fruition.

That was a damn good offense out on that field last night in Oregon. Don't let anybody tell you differently. We made mincemeat out of them. And we're not even clicking on all cylinders yet.

By year's end, we may very well be arguing if this is the best defense LSU has ever fielded.

I worry about our ultra-quick but light defensive ends stopping the run against giant SEC offensive tackles, though.

A valid concern but with LSU's speed I think the plan is to commit numbers up front on running downs. Sell out against the run on early downs to force 3rd and longs and then turn up the pressure.

I think we'll see less Mingo and more Edwards and Adams, especially on running downs. Mingo on obvious pass downs.

Is Adams hurt, I don't recall seeing him much?

I think Montgomery is strong enough to handle big bodied O-linemen. He certainly has a mean streak.

Well, I think you have a valid point, but we did well against Bama last year and they have most of the same O'line....or at least equal to what they had.

Freek is big and needs to come along and I think depth is the key.

The road isn’t easy and our O has to find its role quick….

I agree. I think Mingo just fit given the style of offense the Ducks had. Adams wasn't hurt that I know of. He was healthy before he left so if an injury game it was during warmups.

First of all, good post Istsl, I agree with you on this one and was thinking the same thing this morning. He and his assistants look like they have hit a comfort zone and are running a fine oiled machine.

Adams did play and was hurt briefly on one play in the second half, but it did not look serious.

Solid performance but not a lot of pressure on the QB... maybe by design?

Couldn't get pressure on him because they were getting the ball out in under 4 seconds, hard to get pressure on those plays.

Chavis IS and ALWAYS has been a great d-cordinator, I will never question what he does.
