Even considering that, there's an abundance of talent at the defensive tackle position, as well as offensive guard. Safety and running back bring up the rear of next year's draft class. Here are the top 50 players on the SI.com draft board at the NFL season's halfway point. (* denotes underclassman) 1) Barkevious Mingo, DE-OLB, LSU* -- Mingo offers more impact than any player in this draft, and has the ability to line up at a number of positions in the front seven. The athletic junior comes with great upside and will reward the NFL team that drafts him, then patiently develops his talent. 17) Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU* -- The junior is a productive pass rusher and disruptive force from his defensive end spot. Montgomery comes with a large upside, but personality issues have raised red flags.
Also 38) Bennie Logan, DT, LSU* -- Logan takes a backseat to several of his headlining teammates, but he's highly considered in scouting circles. An overpowering force in the middle of the line, Logan beats opponents with his explosive first step or overwhelms them with power. lol personality issues, you cant have a better young man than Sam. people love to make shit up, just like they did with RG3 with his "bad attitude"
I would think Sam would be higher than Mingo, Mingo seems sorta small (skinny) by NFL standards.....if demolishing offensive lineman like a runaway cement truck constitutes "personality issues" I guess big Sam is all messed up. He's done and said everything the right way at LSU...one of my favorite Tigers. I hope we sign 10 more "psychos" just like him.
they picked Mingo because he could play linebacker or defensive end in a 3-4. So basically they are valuing his upside and versatility. I think Sam is a monster myself, but they think Mingo has the better upside.
Clearly Sam ranks higher to like any gm I would think which makes this list retarded. Mingo is too light and neither seem to finish well. I'll say both go much higher than Logan but Logan has the best career. Mingo can be a kearse-lite but I don't see him nearly as successful. Big Sam has the goods.
Mingo is more of a risk than Sam. I'm not sure he carries enough weight to play the run in a 4-3 defense at the next level.
