As usual, Blake Mitchell is grossly underrated, and as usual BenJarvis Green-Ellis is vastly overrated. Not including DJ Hall among the wide receivers on any of the teams has to be some kind of oversight. He's fairly a 2nd team All-SEC wideout going into the season.

What is Chris Nickson doing ahead of Blake Mitchell, Brandon Cox, John Parker Wilson (who is usually vastly overrated too), and Matthew Stafford? I'd take any of those guys over Nickson at this point, even though I think Nickson is competent.

I would have liked to have seen Alexander or Favorite make the 3rd team over a guy like Wallace Gilberry, who hasn't done squat in two years.
  2. Green Ellis and Gilberry are too high.

    No DJ Hall is crazy.
  3. I know I'm being picky, but...
How is Dorsey not a unanimous 1st team?
    Green-Ellis 1st team all SEC?! :eek:lefire:

  4. For some reason, the All-SEC teams were run on a 3-4 set rather than a 4-3, meaning only 3 tackles made All-SEC and you could only vote for one for 1st team. I guess someone had a hankering to vote for their own guy at that spot.
  5. Its interesting that 4 of our 5 o-line made it to the 3 deep all sec offense, and only Doucet from the skill positions. Last year we were praying for an o-line to lead the running game, hopefully this one gels this season, early rather than late. I'm looking for a positive surprise from our still young running backs. I'm looking for a positive performance from Matt F. This could be a great season.
  6. Coaches cannot vote for their own players.
  7. Florida was very under-represented on the first team offense. It almost seemed like the coaches were throwing a bone to the "dregs" of the SEC--Ole Miss, Miss St., Vandy, and Kentucky (I don't get all that excited over them winning a bowl game for the first time since Jesus was a baby.)

Naturally, the coaches are giving much respect to our defense, but I feel like our skill guys on offense will see their places on the post-season All-SEC team. Keiland Williams, anyone? I don't think he needs to be there now, but I feel like he will be later.
  8. Yes, all of our skill players were bypassed, except Doucet. We're just young, and nobody has a track record. Keiland showed promise late, but certainly was not a dominant player the way McFadden was, heck Dmac carried his team to the championship game.

But Keiland's promise could blossom into stardom, or Alley may come back to the form of 2 years ago. We have to hope for our young skill players to step up and become stars. LaFell, Tolliver, the Mitchells, Byrd the JUCO, there are lots of possibilities, somebody has to seize the opportunity, or we won't win any championships. The nice thing is the o-line is well regarded in preseason. You can't do it without an o-line.

When I think of our 03 team, what made them champions, IMO, was not the stars, it was the absence of weakness at any position, and good team chemistry. If you can play a straight up offense or defense and not have to give up too much in one area to compensate for one weak position, you are truly in good shape.

Right now we can't say we have weaknesses on offense, but we do have plenty of unknowns. If some of our young guys are as good as their press clippings, we'll be fine. If not, the year could be a little disappointing. I vote for the former.
  9. I would consider Blake Mitchell where he is...and weigh that against whether Spurrier understands QB's.

You'll understand why Nickson is rated where he is when you play Vandy. Just wait until you see Bennett and Nickson.

JPW? I'll leave that one alone. It falls in the same category as saying our '05 defense was overrated...hell, we had the calls of 40+ points on this same forum.
  10. No please. Let's talk about it. John Parker Wilson in 2006:

6th in the SEC in yards passing (7th if you combine Mitchell's and Newton's stats)
5th in the SEC in touchdown passes (6th if you combine Mitchell's and Newton's stats)
One of only 5 SEC QBs to throw double-digit interceptions
8th in the SEC in passer rating (an admittedly overrated statistic)
9th in the SEC in yards per attempt
8th in the SEC among quarterbacks in yards rushing (though at least he was in the positive numbers)

He was competent. He wasn't great. He wasn't even "very good". He was competent.
