I am no coach, but I don't think Miles gets enough credit when he does a good job. I thought he clearly outcoached Nuts in the Arky game. And the defensive game plan last night was brilliant (of course the credit goes to Pelini also). We blitz the entire first half to stop Quinn from getting into a short timing pass rhythm (like Bama was able to do), and then when ND spends what I would guess would be the entire halftime adjusting to that, we just flat out play blanket defensive coverage the second half. The result, no first downs for the Irish in the entire second half (please correct me if I am wrong here, I don't remember one). BRILLIANT! And on offense, ND was looking for the first down run early, and we easily hit open recievers. Later, when we run on first down, we are getting 10 yards per carry. We were also very patient in setting up the long ball, and hit most of them we tried. I also really like the way JR was backing off the line and taking a second look at the defense, and he managed to do this with no delay of game penalties. I really liked what I saw from the coaching staff this year. I think Miles is improving as a coach. If there is one thing our program is missing, and has been since the 70's, it is stability at the coaching position. I hope, and believe, that Miles is the answer. I wish our fans would realize that NC's don't come around very often, and the way to get them is to consistantly have top 10 teams. Then the stars will eventually line up for you and one will come about. Just look at the great programs of FL, Ohio St and Texas (and of course LSU) since 1990. So many top 10 finishes, and finally one NC. When you play in the SEC, it is going to be hard to win a NC because of the competition. Almost every year Tenn, FL, Ga, AU, and LSU will have a legitimate shot at a title, it's a hard road to drive, but if we keep on keeping on it will happen again, and I can't wait till Coach Miles wins another won for us! I will be there, just like I was in 03, and there will be another framed poster on my wall with Coach Miles holding up the crystal trophy, with 2 tickets matted below, and my smiling picture in the middle of them, to match the one that is on my wall now from 03! FOREVER LSU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
agree with you , sugarman. as a casual, outside observer, i've been surprised that more LSU fans haven't been on the Les Miles bandwagon. Likewise, I think a lot of SEC fans in general have failed to recognize what Miles has truly accomplished in the short stint he's been there. (only LSU coach in history to have two, 10-win seasons) I'm speculating that a lot of the negativity is a holdover from last year's Tennessee game .... first impressions being what they are and all. Additionally, Miles is not as "smooth talking" or as media savvy as coaches like Spurrier, Saban, Tressel, and Meyer. He's prolly more like Tuberville in that regard. It's more likely that Miles is layin' in the weeds, and IMO, that makes LSU dangerous. It will be very interesting to watch the recruiting events unfold over the next 4 weeks before NSD. i don't follow recruiting in Louisiana closely, but it's my understanding that the top 3 in-state prospects are undecided and are priority-one on Slick Nick's radar ...... something tells me that Miles will aggressively defend these three in order to send a clear message to Saban. But I'll tell you this much, the man can coach some football.
Well, I think the current Saban debacle will slap some faces. I think Miles' support has just skyrocketed with the above and his bowl wins. He has done an outstanding job.
81-17 is Miles' bowl score. I've been a fan of his since midway through last year (the Tenn game was hard to get around). I think after two years he has grown as a coach. He completely outcoached Weis last night. I doubt we will see another game like at Auburn for a while (if ever). He mixed it up last night and stuck with what was working. I was glad to hear some Les Miles chants after the game. I hope we have a loyal coach, because I'd like to see him here for a long time.
The offensive gameplan was fantastic. We put the peddle to the metal and didn't instead simply lay around and protect a small lead and try and hold on for the win. You could see that Weiss was a whipped man at the post-game press conference, he admitted that in light of the USC result and the Sugar Bowl, he needs to do a better job. Hats off to ALL of our coaches !
I was hoping we were going to land CLM when the search was on... Since the day he was announced, I hitched my trailer to the coach!!! So may Tigers were in shock that NS left LSU, but the day NS resigned, I was ready to move forward and not look back. I hope that the bandwagon will soon be overflowing!!!!! Go Coach Miles and Geaux Tigers! :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
I think credit is due to all the coaches. Les Miles is turning out to be a great coach. Pelini and Jimbo deserve a lot of credit with helping with the game plans and getting the players ready for the bowl game. The Special teams was fabulous as well stopping the fake punt and executing a fake FG. This could have easily been a game we lost because we were too confident or let down because we didnt get to go to the Rose Bowl. I really hope both coordinators come back next year and help Miles coach us to a National Championship. Congrats to all the coaches to a great season!! :geauxtige
Les deserves his due. He has created a two year body of work on which to be judged, and he has done an excellent job. His recruiting is solid.
