A list that was "long"? "Big name" coaches? A search that could last until "Jan 12"? A coach that would be here, "10, 20 years"? Uh, no, no, no and (almost certainly) no. I fervently hope Les Miles wins while in Baton Rouge...which will only serve, of course, to make him more attractive the next time either Ohio St (he's an Ohio native who grew up a Buckeye fan) or Michigan (where he lettered and coached as an assistant) needs a head coach. Guess Skip's power was transparent and relied heavily on Nick Saban being around. I haven't seen someone get rolled so badly, so quickly (6 days) since the Germans invaded France in 1940. :cuss:
We wanted a proven college head coach with a winning record, a good recruiter, and with experience in the upper tier of a BCS conference. A coach with a conference championship ring. Miles qualifies.
Agree...but, consider this... Jimmy Johnson was 29 wins and 25 losses at Oklahoma State before going to Miami and we all know what happened there. I won't take credit for this research; I saw someone note this comment on another message board when everyone was trying to compare LM to other coaches, mainly Saban. While I would like to think we could get someone meeting your desciption of pedigree, I don't know if that is possible. As Chris Landry said in his article, to uproot this caliber of coach from an established program is nearly impossible. I don't remember it ever happening except for when these type of coaches get a chance to go to the NFL: Jimmy Johnson, Butch Davis, Steve Spurrier, Dennis Erickson, Nick Saban -- just doesn't happen...not even to Notre Dame, USC or Miami...the successors at these schools did not meet your description.
So you do not think Bertman wields power at LSU? Bertman has a few more NC than Nick does, Lets not count him as "rolled" yet. Let’s talk this time next year and you may have more relative information to back up your claims.
