Maybe y'all are right. Maybe tripling the salary of a guy who's never won a high-stakes game against great competition will work out. And maybe if that guy is 60, a 10-year contract is a smart idea. Maybe I'm a fool for thinking that $10M should get a little more than a sloppy, uninspired team that has regressed.
To be fair to Kelly, ND's academics requirements are on a different level than the basically non-existent academic requirements of the SEC. Top academic schools, regardless of who the coach is, are never going to consistently be able to compete athletically with schools that will take anybody off the street if they can benefit its football program. Considering the obstacles CBK faced at ND, it's quite impressive to see what he was able to accomplish.
Notre Dame currently has the #3 recruiting class in the country. Last year, Freeman signed the #7 class. https://247sports.com/Season/2023-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/
That link actually shows ND at #5 and LSU at #7 currently. Freeman signed the #7 class of players that Kelly and Polian spent the previous few years recruiting. How many kids in ND's upcoming "#5" class did Kelly lay the groundwork for? Kelly kept together the class in 2022 (12th) that Orgeron and his staff recruited in between Orgeron's true passion: chasing coed skirts. Most people would say Kelly sitting with #7 class is an improvement over last year.
Weird, when I posted, they were #3. Guess the updated this morning. I agree. I think Kelly's done a good job with recruiting. Was worried that he wasn't getting more LA players early on. There are a couple out of staters I'm worried about keeping, but hopefully they'll keep their word.
Same worries here. I think he can win but he has to find a way to be dynamic and maximize the game plan aroumd the talent and take risks. If this is gonna be a throw away season, might as well pull out all the stops. This doesnt mean burn WH's redshirt.
While I agree with not putting Howard in it has nothing to do with his RS. Play him the last three games or whatever under the guise of protecting it but lets be real, we have him for 2 more years so do with that what you will. If he is ready then put his ass in there now.
Get what youre saying but thats only true if he is a beast striaght out gates. Im takin the under on WH bein that ready. IIRC, he has already played in SU and/or NM games so that might mean only 1 game left for RS.
I believe you sir are correct, which makes an even stronger case to put him in there. He is supposed to be the chosen one, the future of LSU Football, well the time is now. This season is already in the crapper so why not get him the most valuable of practice?
