That is probably the best place. I had bad luck last trip. Hardly any. I did bring a cast net to ty and get a few skrimpz too.

One of these days, we need to have a meet up somewhere on the coast - 4 or 5 of us who all like this stuff. Would be a good time.

Nah I dont much with getting the hard crabs myself. I got some family and good friends that commercial crab and they don't fish much so I have a little barter set up where I give them all my fish heads to bait their pots with and they keep me supplied with crabs to boil when I want any. Only go get the softshells myself. Got a similar deal for getting my shrimp. Barter out some trout fillets for all the shrimp I want.

I used to go to a place near Montegut that had a small weir across a bayou. You could walk on the top of the weir and use a long net to scoop up all the crabs you could handle. I wonder if its still there. Last time I went was in 2002 or 2003. Been a few hurricanes since then

I hate to respond in a post about crabs, but many, many years ago I used to date a girl from Hackberry.

When I moved home, Nutriaitch took me there. You had to have a boat to get there and the crabs were pretty light. We ended up buying some to finish out the boil. He told me they were like what you said pre-Katrina.
