No clue why this thought came across my mind this morning, but does anyone know what actually happened last year and where he is now - if anywhere?

The last I heard was that earlier this season, Saban told his family that if he wanted to come back and finish his degree, he would hold a scholarship for him. Saban still wants him to graduate.

As far as why he dropped out, there are a couple of different rumors most of them dealing with multiple failings of a certain type of non-academic test. But that is rumor. There were other rumors as well. I am sure that some blow hards on here can come up with definitive un-named "insider" sources and tell us that "such and such rumor" is a FACT. I remember two or three such "facts" being exposed here.

It's kinda strange to say this, but we owe a small part of the national championship to Damien James.

Think about it, if it wasn't for him leaving, Jack Hunt may not have matured into the safety position (and leader of the defense) like he did this year. He may have struggled like he did last year when he had to be thrown in there after James mysteriously left the team.

    Food for thought.

If we're going to go with that train of thought, we owe a debt of gratitude to Lou Tepper as well. Think about it...if his "drop linebacker" scheme actually works, LSU keeps DiNardo, and never hires Nick Saban. So Tepper essentially falls bass-ackwards into
    our gratitude.

I would rather look at it like he's the idiot that cost us at least 2 games last year, maybe 3 since our secondary was exploited so badly and we had to play people out of postion and they made mistakes becuase of that, not to mention the turmoil created on the team for the time that he was missing. What if he would have stayed and played up to his ability, maybe we finish the season with a win over Arkie last year, beat UGA in the SEC CG ans then win a BCS bowl game. This year we may have not fallen so far and maybe could have caught USC for #1 in the AP poll and been a solid #1 without any controversy. A stretch but saying we owe a debt to him is too.

a friend of mine had an unfriendly run in with a certain drop out last year....

he was in front of one of the dorms waiting on a friend....there was a UPS truck right infront of the dorm (the delivery man was inside)....then a truck comes by...scrapes the side of the UPS truck and tears off the side mirror.....the truck then speeds away...

the ups driver came out and the police came...and my friend gave a description of the truck and the people inside it...

right after that he said a guy wearing a shirt and a pair of shorts with "LSU football #5" on them...came up to him and started threating him....

he asked me who #5 on the team was and i told him and showed him a picture....it was him.

soon after he quit the team....i wasnt surprised
