I heard it from a reliable source that Dan Canaveri is leaving the SLU head coaching job and moving back to Baton Rouge. I thought that was very interesting. Anyone have any news on this?
Leaving SLU? Wasn't he forced to put in his resignation by SLU? Heard that on local radio last week sometime. Edit: and people were calling in excitied and pondering him coming coach LSU and somehow replacing Smoke. It was comical at best. The thought of someone who failed at SLU coming to replace Smoke LSU was funny, to say the least.
"Wasn't he forced to put in his resignation by SLU? " I hadn't heard that part. Not saying that it's not true, but... I'll say this about Canaveri, he's one hell of a pitching coach, in my opinion, and he was a major part of LSU's success in the 90's. He really seemed to develop our pitching talent and the pitchers tended to get better each year.
No way I'd want Canno to replace Smoke, but I sure as hell wouldn't object to having him replace Wiederhold.
Heard the AD over there as lost it and in efefct ran off Canaveri and was basis for Mumme leaving. SLU didn't interview Super Bowl champ Woody Woodenhoffer and the basketball coach was so ready to get outta there he left to be assistant at U of Miami. Somebody said something about Canaveri coming back to LSU though in his old job.
I read in today's Times Picyanose that Canaveri resigned at SLU. Here is a quote from Canaveri, "I am resigning my position as head baseball coach at SLU to pursue other opportunities presented to me at this time." LSU! Well Now! LSU! I know for a fact that he is moving to Baton Rouge. LSU! Very interesting. LSU! He's not coming to take a high school job, and the Southern Job is pretty well locked down. LSU!
That does not necessarily mean a coaching position though. Anyone how he and his wife are doing? I know he was stressed out at SLU and lost a lot of weight.
