There may be 3 or 4 SEC coaching vacancies this year. Cutcliff and Sherrill are on the hot seat, Holtz may retire, plus Zook and Tuberville might not survive mediocre seasons. And of course, Saban will go to the NFL.
Don't count on Holtz to retire. I just read an article by him in Sports Illustrated where he says he thought he would never coach again after Notre Dame but how excited he was about the challenge of rebuilding the Gamecocks football program. I don't think he will feel like his job is complete at SC until he wins something, like at least the SEC East.
Holz could have 4 losing seasons out of 5 after this season. How long do you think the Cocks will just be glad to have a coach with name recognition.
I hate aubbie as much as any of you, but the more aubbie loses, the more it hurts us (if we beat them) when the points are totaled for the BCS bowls. Never mind..I hope Vandy wins!
One question, just who does Ole Miss think they will be able to get as a coach? They should face it, no one wants to go there on a long-term basis. The Ole Miss job is at best viewed as a stepping stone (as with Tubby) or suicide (Cutcliffe). The only thing they have going for them is they can tell recruits that they will get to be seen on JP almost every week, and with those early starts the players have all afternoon and all night to party. Face it Rebs, mediocre is the best you will ever be.
