killer instinct? Lurking the Gator board and thought this assessment seems pretty spot on. Notice they only score when they are challenged after going down or having it tied up. When they are winning they play like crap
I'll agree with that sentiment. I think it is mostly Jimbo/Les wanting to sit on the lead and play good Defense. I mean that is the smart way to play in the SEC, esp. if our D keeps playing like that, but that does not work when you turn the ball over. Fans might not be happy with it given the offensive playmakers at our disposal however, and it would be nice to see Jimbo "pour it on" after successfully completing 2 big plays in the passing game.
I think we lack the ability to hang on to the ball and that has stopped us from killing teams that we absolutely dominated in the stats. That includes the defense which has had numerous passes hit them right in the teeth and just couldn't reel them in for the TO.
I don't think it's a lack of a killer instinct or a lack of "good" playcalling. I think it's the result of an inconsistent team of players. We have playmakers that just haven't yet matured, but they know how to turn it on when they need to it seems.
I disagree. I don't equate stupid turnovers with "playing like crap" if the offense is still moving the ball in the meantime. Consider the ASU game with that long-ass drive in the first that ended with no points b/c JR fumbles it away. Turnovers wreck havoc on momentum, so it stands to reason that five of them can derail even the best teams for good stretches during a game. Hold on to the freaking football for a change and I think the "crappiness" factor declines greatly.
Good it be just a lack of adjustments ? It seems LSU comes out like Gang busters and the other team adjusts and we dont. However I dont blame Les Miles (First time I never said less smiles) for 5 turnovers, they dont coach penalties and turnovers. Fact is, this is good news.. Why ? because those are problems that can be fixed. BUT it seems to me that when the opposing team makes adjustments we dont, hence we come out like gang busters then sort of go stale. But I also realize those guys know more about football then I do, and I was pleased to see us air it out a bit yesterday. My biggest complaint. With all the speed at WR we shoudl throw it down field at least 3 or 4 times a game.
