Obviously, we're all a little biased (to a certain extent), but when looking over the rankings and RPI, I can't help but feel that perhaps Pokey's bunch isn't quite getting enough respect.

I know that rankings--especially in basketball and baseball mean little as there will be a field of 64 competing for the National title, so, in that respect, the ranking of the top 5 is sort of meaningless...nonetheless, I feel that dispite LSU's consistant strong showing, the Lady Tigers current nationally 4th-ranking is a little low, IMO.

For instance: Strength of schedule. The top 2 ranked teams (UNC and Duke) have a SOS of 17th and 12th respectively. Compare that to UConn, Tenn and LSU, who rank 2,3 and 8th.

All the teams in the top 5 have at least one loss, but when you factor in RPI, LSU is the top team here. I think it's FAR more impressive to be 21-1 and your only loss of the season came on the road against the #3 ranked team in the nation by only 3 points--which is what LSU has done.

Now, not only are we SHREDDING the teams that we should beat, but we're also beating ranked opponents left and right--save for UConn of course.

Now, with the exception of Tenn. and UConn (both have 3 losses), LSU, Duke and UNC can all make a solid arguement for the #1 ranking.

Personally, I feel that the new top 5 (pending we win vs UGA this weekend), SHOULD be:

    1. UNC 22-1 (I'll give them credit for being ranked #1 currently and I feel that it needs to take a crappy performance against a lesser opponent to drop them from that spot too quickly but I feel that especially after LSU beat Tenn., the voters need to start taking a few more 1st-place votes from the Lady Tarheels)

    2. UConn 22-3 (when you have the 2nd hardest SOS in the country and a recent win against a top 5 opponent, you get the benefit)

    3. LSU 21-1 (#1 in current RPI...how many more "W's" against top 25 ranked teams do we need to start getting some 1st place votes???)

    4. Duke 21-1 (when you have the lowest SOS than any other top 5 team, you need to do better than posses the same record as 3 of them...unless that record shows "0"...as in "0" loses)

    5. Tenn. 21-3 (ranked #2 in RPI....3rd highest SOS)

I understand your reasonings, but when you start getting down to the top five, it's hard to start moving teams... I mean, like you said, there are at least 3 teams that have a legitimate claim to the number 1 spot. I think LSU is getting its share of respect. Now, the men's team, on the other hand...

UNC just got their first loss this week. Dukes 1 loss was to UNC in a close game I think when Duke was #1 and UNC was 2 right after LSU had gotten their loss.

I thought the same thing, but as mentioned it really means little if you can't win in the Big Dance. If this were football then I'd care. Also, it would be hard to drop any of the top 3 teams below LSU at this point. They are playing just as well, we just tend not to watch them as much.

I feel sorry for you, man.

Our Lady Tigers are beautiful. My favorites are Seimone and Sholanda, numbers 32 and 33! I wish I could give them both a Big Kiss.

    ;)

PS Don't fret, April B., you know you're my Special Sugary Sweet-Thang.
