...that with EVERY one of those NFL head coaching jobs that come open, and the national media pinheads spinning off at the mouth on the never-ending, "rumors are that they are interested in LSU coach, Nick Saban", hurts our chances in recruiting? Perhaps even just a little bit? I'm at the point right now that if I were within reaching distance of any sports writer that let the words: "NFL" , "interested" and "Saban" out of his mouth, those would be the last words he would speak until the wires holding his jaw in place, were removed. I'm sure a lot of you are like myself in that we're confident Saban will stay here at LSU. But I hope I'm not alone in saying that I still get axious, and butterflies in my stomach when I learn that yet another NFL head coach has "bit the dust" and they're after Nick. :sob: Daddy! Daddy!!!! Make the bad voices go away!!!!!!!! .......... One of my co-workers up here made the comment: "Any top-notch recruit that is 50/50 about going to LSU or someplace else might get discouraged with all the rumors about Saban leaving, that he may sign elsewhere." I thought about that for awhile, and it made a whole lot of sense.....at least to me it did. That's why I'm at the point that I could just break sportswriter's fingers
Saban talks to all the recruits personally. He has stated many times that he tells them do you want to come play for a guy that the NFL wants. I think it probably helps more with the 4 and 5 star guys, who have a shot at the NFL, by allowing them to see what the closest thing is like to having a NFL caliber quote. I have also heard a scout say that Saban has so much credibility in the NFL that when he says a player can fit in and play well everyone in the league listens and takes seriuos looks at the guy. Matt
I think it will do the opposite... I am sure that Saban tells all of his prospects that he is planning on staying, so there might not be a downside (Ill admit that i could be wrong) Also the upside would be all of the attention that he gets, because he is becoming a more well know coach every time that ESPN (or anyone for that matter) mentions his name. IOWA IS TIGERBAIT :geaux:
Actually,m we didn't have a top 5 class after the 2001 season and I attribute it partly to Saban ignoring all the NFL rumors without saying anything. We lost a few commits in January and Feb that year and the class suffered. The past 2 yaers Saban has come out publicly and said he was staying at LSU, of course even signing a new deal last year. He also attributed us losing some players in that class to them playing in the SEC CG and also the Sugar Bowl and not working out the recruiting schedules properly. He talked about it extensively last December.
Marquise Hill. where did we finish in the recruiting rankings with that crew? not first? :hihi: :hihi:
I found the list on lsusports.net http://www.lsusports.net/ad/sportlink.cfm?pagecode=fb-01signees I think we finished either #1 or #2 with that class.
yes but petey was handcuffed in New England by the management. Can't you see New England has still won nothing since he left? :hihi: :hihi:
