That Saban ran up the score ONLY b/c he is trying to make a statement for purposes of the polls? OR Has Saban finally realized that it's not "evil" to actually dominate the opposition and run up the score so as to beat them into submission as early as possible? Worked for Spurrier!! Sure, he was a jerk and most don't like him, but I think his record of success and domination in the SEC speak for itself. IMO, if LSU wants to be a perennial Top 10 (not top 20 or 25)team w/a legitimate chance at a national championship more often than once every 40-50 years, the conservative mentality that has plagued them for decades has got to go!
i don't think Saban ran up the score. Saban could have put another 21 or more on the board yesterday if he choose to do so.
Yep he REALLY ran up that score!! I would always pull my starters and not throw but one pass in an entire quarter and especially call an option on fourth and seventeen at my opponents twenty five yard line to REALLY stick it to them.
Run up the score? Are you kidding? He definitely called the dogs off. At the same time, he remembered the game two years ago when Arkansas came back from way down and turned what should have been a blowout into a close game. He wanted to be sure they were rasing the white flag before backing off. He did the right thing - and as usual shows a lot of class. GEAUX TIGERS!
I do not think he ran up the score as well. The fake FG was when we were up by 24 mid way through the 3rd quarter. ARK is know for making runs. They were behind by 21 against Alabama early in the 3rd quarter and came back to win the game scoring 24 unanswered points.
Compared to previous years, where he would do the same thing you suggest earlier in the game and up by only 2 or 3 touchdowns, yeah I would say for Saban, that was running up the score yesterday! It's all relative, I guess.
Saban's got the right balance in knowing when to stop. He gets the score to where he knows it's impossible for a comeback, showing respect for the game and the other team. I totally agree that the days of conservative thinking that has plagued us these past few decades has got to go. If you want to play with the big boys, you have to blow out teams like the big boys do.
Late in the game, LSU ran the ball on fourth down and long when they could have kicked an easy field goal. There was no running up of the score.
I think that Saban wanted 50 and then was content to run the clock out. We've all seen these Rece Davis types on television go on about how this team "hung half a hundred" on so and so.
I don't think Saban was running up the score. He has always wanted his players to play as well as they can with every down. They continued to execute and delivered. Once a comfortable cushion was achieved with the score, he then called in the second and third teams. ________ Weed
