Does anyone believe JJ can lead us to and SEC or BCS trophy

I think this is the most important position on the field but i dont know if he always has the "it" factor. I would hope with a better O line and better coaching this can be corrected but i am not sure. This is some of the things i have observed and why i believe this.

    1. Bad mechanics- Throwing motion, not stepping up in pocket. At times i see him almost stepping into a sack.

    2. Cannot read defenses- This may be more coaching and the "meerkat experiment". He relies to much and coaches to make pre snap reads. I just dont know if he had to do it himself whether he could at times.

    3. Does not go through progressions- This coincides with the keying on one reciever, at times it seems if his first option is not open the play dies.

    4. Holds on to the ball too long- May also be coaching and the fact we rarely have anyone run short routes, and the ones we do run take to long to develop. But at times i am screaming for him to at least throw it away or do something with the ball, then boom sack.

    5. No pocket presence- see 3 above. Cannot feel when the sack is coming, or no sense of that 1 2 3 throw if that makes sense.

    6. Not as "athletic" as one would think- I think he is a tween b/n pocket passer and scrambler. He seems more comfortable with rolling pockets and such. If he is forced to scramble it sometimes looks ugly. I did not mean anything by putting "athletic" other than everyone always debating on whether he is a pocket passer or not.

    7. No "touch" on certain passes- His long throws leave much to be desired. I also believe if he led his receivers more with a little touch on the ball we could gain more yardage. Most of his passes are behind, over the receiver etc.

    8. Keys in on just one reciever- which coincides with the progressions, and some of my above post. It seems like if the play is meant for TT or JoJo or whoever and it is not there, the play dies at that point.

    9. Tends to force throws at times- (Though not the pick six machine like Lee.) Yes i know he has a low interception rate but at times he has come really close to forcing it, he has just gotten lucky that it has not gotten picked as much.

    10. Gets rattled at times- If all else fails you know it will be a sack or broken play. It just seems like he gets rattled by pressure too much.

I am in no way bashing him. I say that cause anytime i post on TD i get my threads whacked or bashed when i just want to have an honest discussion about stuff sometimes. Anyway, i just am a little iffy about if he could correct any of these mistakes. I just dont know if all of these are correctable. I wanted to see what you guys think.

JJ has shown the physical ability to lead us to a championship, however the physical part is no more than half of what it takes. No one on this board can tell you for certain whether the light will come on in his head or if he will progress to the point where he reaches his potential. Unfortunately that question will have to be answered on the field next year. We should know one way or another a few games into next season. The trial period is over, time for him to deliver or step aside.

having an offensive line that can actually block for a running game as well as JJ would make my answer a "yes" but the D will have to improve too.

I think he can be. You have to know two things.
    1) this is his first year as a full time starter. Give him a break he's 19 a true soph and finally starting to learn to play agaisnt SEC defenses

    2) The o line did not do him any favors. Constant holes had defenses swarming him. I believe he was a bit shell shocked.

Look what he did vs arkansas. Same oppertunity that the team blew vs ole miss, he executed a great job that lead to a tieing field goal. I believe he is good enough to be a very good QB in this league.

Probably because this is about the 732nd thread of this exact nature within the past week. Hackneyed, to say the least.

While most of your criticisms are valid, they are almost all correctable with coaching and experience. I think we need to give JJ time to develop before we evaluate whether he can win us a championship. Hopefully by the time he is a senior, he will be that level of QB, but it doesn't always click for everyone right away.
