In 2004, Auburn had possibly the most unfortunate timing EVER to put together a remarkable undefeated season in the SEC. USC and Oklahoma, ranked #1 and 2 all year never lost or allowed Auburn to gain ground and they were left on the outside looking in. In 2007, LSU loses two games in the last half of the season and will play for the National Title in New Orleans.
Not funny, maybe "ironic" is the word, or like you said, "unfortunate". You would have to remember that everyone lost this year. Imagine where we would be with our record/season if it were transposed onto that year? Possibly right where we were that year, I don't recall how many times we lost that year was it only once to the barners?
If anything, Auburn fans can take solace in the fact that they may be the last team in the SEC to go undefeated for quite some time.
i handle all the telcom for my employer. we use at&t. my account rep for my 200+ land lines around louisiana is a hard core auburn fan in the at&t birmingham office. he and i were discussing this very topic today. he is mildly amused by the whole thing and convinced that the media (read as ap poll) hates CTT and not only goes out of their way to make sure auburn doesn't get votes but also goes out of their way to minimally televise auburn and when they are televised it's a 11:00 am game or the game they get their azz handed to them. i am more amused at his rant than i am the undefeated/two-loss situation.
not so funny... but yeah we were the unluckiest team in the world in 04...and going to the Nat'l champ with 2 losses is pretty lucky. oh well. beat the buckeyes.
Auburn got hosed. Plain and simple. No team that goes undefeated in the SEC should be denied a title game.
The BCS system has been good to LSU. As far as Auburn, how many times do you have 3 undeated teams, nothing they could do about it. Getting to the BCS championship game take a little luck and some promotion. "Undeated in regulation":milesmic:
