Some at Bama are pointing to what TT did when he left Ole Miss to what Saban can still do despite his statement that he will not be the coach at Bama. To hell with it, bring on Notre Dame !

Those words sound familiar from someone I don't trust. Very familiar right before he left us to coach the Dolphins.

I have a cousin who is a 'Bama grad and now back at the Univ as a professor. In her holiday newsletter she mentions "...though if any of you are looking for a head coaching job, we know of a vacancy."

Some of their fans (or at least one) are not only realistic, but have a sense of humor about the whole thing.

As long as you remember to come back when Saban is still coaching the Dolphins next season and Bama has Ferny Lundgrin as HC.

HYDE: Saban has no role with Tide
    Miami Sun-Sentinel
    December 22, 2006

Here's the thing: I don't understand why Nick Saban even would want the Alabama job. It makes no sense. He already has won in college. He'd leave the Dolphins job unfinished. He'd be branded a quitter.

Saban would make a little more money, but he'd forfeit great gobs of integrity. Not so much for lying to the media (join the club) or his players (a bigger deal), but to the one person he respects around here above all others: Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga.

"He has told me a number of times he is not interested," in the Alabama job, Huizenga said on Thursday through his office.

Again, this never-ending story makes no sense. Saban keeps saying so without directly hitting the mark, too.

But that doesn't stop the smoke from billowing, as on the heels of Wednesday's NFL.com report that quoted an unnamed NFL coach saying Saban would take the job, Terry Bowden predicted he would on ESPN Radio, too.

"Nick can shoot all of this down with one sentence but he doesn't," Bowden said on ESPN.

And so, after Saban again killed the messengers more than the message, he was asked: Why don't you just say you're not going to be the Alabama coach?

"I think I just said that," Saban said. "Did I not say that?"

Not in those direct words, he was told.

"Well, then I guess I have to say it: I'm not going to be the Alabama coach," he said. "I shouldn't even have to comment on this. I think I've said this over and over again. What they do with their position is their business."

Saban hasn't improved the Dolphins in his two years. He might not get the job done here. He certainly won't succeed if he doesn't get the quarterback position solved. But he's a straight-shooter for the most part.

He isn't slippery in the manner that, say, Dennis Erickson or Butch Davis were in South Florida.

Sure, we're all conditioned not to believe coaches even if they're hooked to a polygraph, injected with truth serum and have their tongues notarized. And maybe he's pulling off the grand deception here. But label me stunned if he leaves the Dolphins for Alabama.

Read the rest of the story . . .

red55 that is just coach speak... ;-)

Frankly I could care less if he went to bama. It would be funny in two years if they go through the same thing Mich St, LSU, and Miami went through with his "Look at Me Look at Me" and "I am not interested in another job, why do you keep asking" stuff.

I think Saban is a great coach, but until that man learns what Commitment is to a fan base/program that has handed him everything he wants he will always be a journeyman. BUT if he bails on Miami, most people will have some serious concerns about him, so he may be at Bama a long time because wont want to hire him.

Here's the difference. He never said he would not leave LSU. He never said he wasn't going to be the Miami coach. He chose his words carefully and always left the door open for him taking an NFL gig.

This latest statement would make it difficult to take the Bama job now. I do think he/Sexton were talking to Bama about the job. If he takes it after making this statement, he'll be just another lying scumbag coach in my mind.

I'll always be thankful to Saban for what he did for LSU, but I'm losing a lot of respect for the man.

Not that he cares what I think.

Why not wait until he actually leaves before throwing him under the bus?

Saban says "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach." The media says "Hmmmmm...what's he actually saying here?"

What he's saying is what I'm going to believe until it's proven otherwise.

If you don't think he/Sexton isn't behind all these rumors, well then, I have some great beachfront property for you here in BR.

I understood all those rumors to the NFL when he was here. We all knew he wanted to be an NFL HC one day. He/Sexton kept his name out there for every job opening.

His track record is the reason why everyone questions what he is saying.
