That thread "it never rains in Tiger Stadium" got me thinking... Did we ever have that new drainage system installed after the Katrina season? That Fresno game was an ultimate test and it looked like the field was in as good condition as possible after that rain. I was amazed how it didn't tear up[ that bad during the game. So I assume it was put in. Does it mean there is no pitch in the field? I remember back when I played high school ball there were some fields that were pitched so much you could only see the upper halves of the other team when on the sideline. What makes this system in Tiger Stadium so great?
On a related note, which game was it in 05 or 06 that they trucked in the airboats? Now, that was some coon-ass engineering to be proud of!:thumb: Later tirk, Fur
Surely the drainage system is installed...as I too was at the Fresno game, and having a little knowledge about drainage...I was extremely impressed how the field played after that much rain...didn't stop pouring until about 5 minutes before kickoff, and I saw no problems with turf tearing up or even players losing their footing, although I did see a couple Fresno guys get their feet knocked out from under them...I think they call that being "de-cleated"!o:
The new turf and drainage system was put in before last season. It held up really well last year. The airboats were used for one of the Saints game at Tiger Stadium in '05, wasn't it?
I vaguely remember watching the replay of the Fresno game and Ron Franklin talking about how there was a problem. The redesigned drainage sent the water through the university drainage system, and since there was so much rain the main system was backed up. As soon as the main drainage cleared, the field drained quickly. I can try and find the video clip if you want to know more about that. The Reveille had a couple of articles in the summer of 06. I’m not clear on what they mean by “level of the field”, but maybe it’s a combination of both pitch and height.
