According to this guys argument, the WVU agreement signals an end to the Tulane series. http://www.neworleans.com/sports/sports-blogs/lenny-vangilder/106873.html
i wish tulane was a more competitive rivalry because i love going to N.O. every other year. but as of now all it feels like is that we're helping out a rival from losing their ath dept.
I agree. The rivalry with Tulane is just not there as it once was when we were in the same conference. Our overall record against them speaks for itself. The Tulane series is just an expensive win for us.
when we first brought the series back, i was happy to see it. it used to be a good in state rivalry with a lot of smack between the fan bases. but it just doesnt have that feeling this go round. it seems to be a ho-hum game to both schools. i say let it die for good and just keep the baseball rivalry. if tulane EVER gets their sh!t together in football, then the issue can be revisited.
Better Tulane than the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople. At least it is a Division I win. But we don't need to play them annually. Every three years at home and once a decade in the Dome might work.
As with most of what you post, sounds reasonable. Only problem is it's the only chance some of us get to party and see the Tigers live. Probably close to a million Tiger fans in Southeast Louisiana, in and around New Orleans, and the Sugar Bowl is out of the affordable price range for many. A regular game in the Dome can be looked at as a sort of reward to the Tiger boosters in this group. The problem has been and is the split in the gate receipts.
dude, Tiger Stadium is only an hour down the road, and 20,000 more seats are available. I live an hour from NOLA, but 2 hours from BR. Yet I find it MUCH easier to find tickets to home games than games in the Dome.
Do you think there's a chance LSU may have to play a season in the Dome in the future if work on the lower bowl in Tiger stadium ever gets underway like is mentioned in the other thread? Kind of like the Saints in BR after Katrina?
Sure, I think it's a possibility. But I think it's a possibilty the LSU administration would like to avoid. What is face value for a ticket? $50 or so? The dome holds either 72k or 69k (depending on setup) That's 20,000 fewer tickets that can be sold. That's $1 million PER GAME less than Death Valley can bring in. And that's just in ticket sales. Throw in concessions and souveneirs for each of those 20k. Just adds to the loss. Plus, I would guess that the Dome comission wouldn't allow an act like LSU to show up for free. So add in whatever the cost of a "lease" type deal would run. Adds up to potentially BIG financial losses for the athletic department.
