I have never jumped on the "I hate USC" bandwagon, but ESPN may just put me there. USC got screwed last year, they should have played us in the Sugar, so I don't have a problem with them. Afterall, it was the AP who gave them the split title. If they didn't have the media support, they would've had no claim to it. But did anyone see ESPN this morning? I believe it was on "Fact or Fiction" and the question was "Could USC beat the San Francisco 49'ers?" In order to ask that question there would have to be some people who believe that the University of Second Choice really could beat an NFL team. I find that absurd. USC would make the 49'ers look like a Superbowl contender. Let's see, against Virginia Tech, won by 11 but game was closer, at Stanford won by 3, Oregon State won by 8, and UCLA won by 5....and they could hang with the 49'ers? Another nail in the ESPN credibility coffin.
Yea, I really don't understand any attempt to equate college and pro football. Anybody that knows anything about the two understands it's like asking if a junior high basketball team could beat the Spurs. It just doesn't make sense. It seems like they're doing stuff to get attention now, which is just a shame.
you shouldnt be that surprised. there are many tf posters that think that the lsu women's basketball team can beat the men's team. just as absurd or perhaps more absurd.
Years ago the college all-stars played the winner of the Super Bowl. They (all-stars) won one year. I don't remember how many years this went on but I liked that they did that. I have to say I don't believe "USC" could beat ANY of the playoff teams this year. USC had a great Orange Bowl but that was an abberation. They did not dominate their regular season like they did in the bowl game. I will say this and I know I'll get yelled at but I think there have been some college national championship teams that could have beat several NFL teams in the past. Keep in mind that the college all-stars are more at a disadvantage than the regular season nation championship winners. A different coach. A coach that tries to get into the game as many honored players into the game as possible. And a large group of players trying to 'learn' in a short period of time the coaches scheme for a game two weeks after the Super Bowl. I say take a Nebraska team like the team that stomped Florida several years ago in the bowl game that won them the MNC and they would probably beat a few NFL teams. Same coach, same players, know the schemes........yes, I think a great college team could handle a few of the NFL teams.
Think about it, every player on the 49ers was a college superstar. Ken Dorsey was unstoppable at Miami, it was impossible to tackle Kevan Barlow at Pitt, Julian Peterson was the best LB in college football at his time, and Andre Carter was the best pass rusher while at Cal. Every player on SF is an NFL-quality player, USC has maybe 4 or 5 guys who could start on an NFL team right now.
only reason an NFL team would lose is lack of interest. Hell, many can't get up for the bad teams during the regular season, much less a college team and a meaningless game. zero motivation.
