Thanks to UGA's prez. I know he called them out but nothing will EVER come of it. To much money and influence by ESPiN. Adams is frustrated by the power of the television networks, particularly ESPN, and of the commissioners of the bowls and conferences. "The television networks -- particularly the one that controls the majority of regular season and postseason games -- have grown powerful in deciding who plays and when they play, and, indeed, whom they hire to coach," Adams wrote in a letter to NCAA president Myles Brand. "The Bowl Championship Series has become a beauty contest largely stage-managed by the networks, which in turn protect the interests of their own partner conferences." :milesmic: :LSU231: :geauxtige :crystal: :crystal: :crystal:
I think thats all true to a point. Look, every football fan everywhere knows full well that its about $$$$$! Whether you're watching on Saturday or Sunday. "So whats new"? Its the driving force in the NCAA, and its the reason we don't have a playoff system. The "old guard" is scared to death to tamper with things due to the fear (real or imagined) they may lose revenue. To be sure, a lot of universities & conferences feel the same way. But this particular reaction sounds more like sour grapes to me because the Bulldogs weren't picked to go to the big dance. Ya got to love the melodrama though!:thumb:
Weren't you guys calling Tuberville a crybaby for doing the same thing in 2004? Oh yeah sorry...I forgot that there are different rules for Tuberville with LSU fans.
He's just being an opportunistic prick...I refuse to take his comments too seriously since he never said that a playoff was needed when we had to share a title in '03, when Auburn went undefeated in '04, and last year when Florida was lobbying to get into the game...Like phlashman said, it seems like sour grapes and it is also pretty much self serving.
No, I wish Tubby would have raised 7 kinds of hell and I wish the rest of the SEC coaches would have supported him...
While the NCAA holds programs accountable for buying a player so much as a candy bar, the ESPN/Disney entity in turn manipulates and wields enormous power.
Whatever happened, happened. Right now someone is making a legit case for a playoff, regardless of his reasons for doing so, and we should support his fight. I for one am a fan for the playoff, I believe the best team would end up playing for the NCG every year and not just the media darling. :milesmic: :LSU231: :geauxtige :crystal: :crystal: :crystal:
