"Conference title games are nothing more than glorified scrimmages that can only hurt the higher-ranked team", writes Rod Gilmore

Is it me? Or is this the dumbest thing ever written about CFB???

It's obvious Rod has never been to an SECCG.
I heard one of the idiots on ESPN radio this morning saying something very similar. It sounds like these ESPN guys get a list of talking points to B**** about everyday.

    Absolute ridiculous statement.

This game is more exciting than any bowl we will go to. LSU is better than any team we will play in a bowl wether its West Virginia (BCS garbage with automatic bids...) or some random team in the Peach bowl.

    Gilmore is a dumba$$!

He must not remeber the 2003 SECCG that helped us get into the NC game.

Nope. The dumbest thing was the Birmingham sportswriter who wrote that "Pigs will fly" before Curley Hallman's LSU team beats Bama at home.

Cartoon pigs were flying in the Birmingham sunday paper the next day.

    Championship games are HUGE...

Tell Les Miles they aren't huge...

The man had more energy in his voice than ever before last night...

But at the same time, the conferences who have the games get screwed out of BCS at large bids...

Say #3 plays #6... Those are 2 quality teams...

If the season just ends, #3 is the champ, #6 gets the at-large, but if they play, the losing team drops out of contention... That is my only problem with them, but the last few years LSU has made it, they have won! :yelwink2:

Well, he has a very small point. Of course, I still disagree with him.

He's most likely a Pac-10 or Big-10 fan & trying to give some credit to the conference even though it doesn't have a conference championship game.

Sorry bro, But I wouldn't want a championship that I din't earn. If you can sleep at night calling yourself the champion when you didn't even play the best teams to get there, so be it. But I couldn't.

I think Gilmore is a Stanford guy. That's why he's not big on conference championship games. Pac 10 has it right in is mind.

And he sucks big time as a commentator....

As of now the only true championship games are the conference championship games. If you win the SECCG nobody can dispute who the champions are (except for ESPN Experts:eek: ). If you win the BCS championship, well you know the rest.
