USC is the one with the *Free Pass* to the BCS game. No one is questioning their wins, schedule, margin of victory, or lack of a conference championship game. If it does come down to USC and Auburn. Go Tigers.
They have squeaked by Stanford, Va Tech, Oregon State and got bitch slapped up and down the field by Cal (who turned the ball over and shot themselves in the foot), and yet the voters are 100% sure they are the #1 team. 50 first place votes makes no sense to me whatsoever. They are a good team, but this notion that they are without a doubt the number 1 team is stupid. The top 3 teams should all be relatively even right now in points.
USC has squeaked by this year in several games but overall are the best team in the country, IMO. Sadly, I do agree that their lack of any CG really gives them an unfair advantage.
The damn media has the entire sports world scratching their heads to determine which team is #2 - it really pisses me off because 3 teams can claim they are #1 right now. USC is riding on the wave of preseason love and preseason rankings... Why do they not receive the scrutiny OU and AU are getting?
I know, I know - sometimes I get the feeling that if I just think about it one more time I will come to grips with it and worry about something else. Once again, it just pissed me off more...
Check this out - it's as if we should all be studying advanced mathematics in an attempt to decide which team will be given the HONOR to play the mighty Trojans. It's the Orange Bowl, not the "We are so fortunate to be on the same field with USC because they are clearly a cut above" Bowl... http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/polling?event_id=997 Sunday, November 14 Vote: Auburn or OU? Which is the better team? For just the second time in the history of the AP media poll, there is a tie for the No. 2 spot. It just goes to show how close Auburn and Oklahoma really are. Which team would give USC a better game? What would be the outcome if these two teams met on a neutral field? Cast your vote now! 1) Who has the better quarterback? Auburn - Jason Campbell Oklahoma - Jason White 2) Who has the better running back? Auburn - Carnell ''Cadillac'' Williams Oklahoma - Adrian Peterson 3) Who has the better receivers? Auburn - Courtney Taylor, Ronnie Brown Oklahoma - Mark Clayton, Travis Wilson 4) Who has the better defense? Auburn Oklahoma 5) Who has the better special teams? Auburn Oklahoma 6) Who has the better coach? Auburn - Tommy Tuberville Oklahoma - Bob Stoops 7) Who would give USC a better game? :dis: Auburn Oklahoma 8) Who should be No. 2 in the polls? Auburn Oklahoma 9) Who would win if Auburn and Oklahoma squared off on a neutral field right now? Auburn Oklahoma
I think it should be Auburn vs. OU in my opinion. USC has had the easiest schedule of the 3 and has looked bad in the 1st half against Zona, bad through 3 quarters against BYU, bad against Oregon State, bad against Stanford. Auburn has had absolutely no difficulty since defeating us and OU outside of Texas A&M @ Kyle Field and OSU @ Stillwater has really had no worries. I'm not the most unbiased guy I guess and I will admit that it would be completely hilarious if USC was left out of the mix again, but it is obvious that the media and BCS will not let that happen no matter who actually deserves to be in the Orange Bowl.
This whole thread just reminds me of what a fiasco college football has become. Its the laughing stock of all sports since their is no playoffs IMHO. Didn't they decide after last years game that the winner of the championship game would play the team in question for the overall championship of college football or was it all talk? In other words we would've played Usuck after the Sugar Bowl?
