Did anyone notice that not only did Jimbo/Les execute a fake punt and make a first down, but the new punt formation allowed LSU to put three blockers in front of the running punter. I call this playing to win, taking chances when they are needed and it didn't seem conservative at all. Plus the new punt formation has shown a virtue that should make our opponents more wary about rushing the punter.
I agree this was the most aggressive game plan (by far) we have had in our 3 SEC road games. It was very nice to see. I'm happy they spotted the opportunity to exploit the Tennessee return team in that instance. It was great to see Keiland Williams get his carries. It was great to see Holliday on the end arounds. Lots of positives to take from this game, offensively. It reminded me a lot of the 2003 season with Mauck and how we ran our plays back then. I especially love the quick pitch to Williams for the score. I don't know why teams in general don't do this to get the back to the outside that much quicker.
good point Red. it was a nice call. Hopefully they won't ever have to call it again. Maybe they should apply this same "nice" play calling, coaching in general to reduce penalties and convert on 3rd down so they won't have to be so ingenuis on 4th down and 8. Just a thought. but yeah great play. Kudos to Chris Jackson for pulling it off. :geauxtige
It was a good play call and at the right time of the game. Any time you call a fake punt it takes nads because if you fail it could be a disaster. Good call and good execution.
Kudos to Jackson for holding on to the ball at the end of his run...he took a pretty big hit for someone not used to that kind of contact.
We lead the SEC in 3rd down conversion at 53.5%. We were 8-14 yesterday, 57%. If you are going to be critical, at least pick the right topic to criticize!
I was accurate. It doesn't concern me what stats we lead other than the stat of going to atlanta. If we reduce penalties and convert more 3rd downs it will help us do that. You disagree? quit trying to put words in people's mouths. I am sure we do lead the SEC. We had some VERY good blow out games. We're playing the SEc schedule now however. It wouldn't hurt a thing to make that percentage go up. if 50% is pretty good, 80% is better. Would be nice to finish the Rest of the schedule with 20+ point wins and embarress the piggies in their home. send a message that the first two losses are behind us and we kicked in a different gear. :geauxtige have a great day.
I phucking love this attitude. Wish more people would get it on this board. This team is clearly the best team in the SEC, yet we struggle to show it for the 3rd straight time yesterday (on the road). The game should have been 42-10 yet we managed to screw things up so badly it took a miracle drive to win it.
