Do you guys think our freshmen kickers will be able to step up when it counts? Remember how terrible our kicking situation was a few years ago? Maybe you guys know something I don't about our kickers' abilities.:lsug:
I'm sure that is a little easier said than done. But I would also like to see less penalties and better coverage on the Special Teams. With Corbello gone, there is a big ? at the field goal position and a question at the kickoff position. I feel great about having Donnie at Punter. It's just the other side of Special teams that I am too nervous about...
From what I hear..its going to be Chris Jackson..with Ryan Gaudet as the back up....There is even talk that they might split duties, with Jackson handling kickoffs and long fied goals and Gaudet handling extra points and short field goals..but look for Jackson. Jackson...7 of 10 Fg's long 57 yds rated Rival's #5 best kicker in US 37 of 41 extra Pts--(3 bad holds) Kicker entire life since peewee ball 87% of kickoffs go over the endline and are unreturnable Jackson has an extremely strong leg and has even hit from 70 in practice. As of now..it doesnt look as if Andre Boagni will be invited to fall practice..thats all I know.
I don't think Beamer's scheme is anything special. It's execution. If you practice more than a couple hours a week I'm sure you could get pretyy good at it. Another thing, yes they block alot of kicks........but how many times do they put a punt return on vs a punt block. If you try to block more that you try to return the odds are in your favor of well..blocking more. I'm not trying to downplay Va Tech special teams they are awesome. To put punt block nearly every time you force a punt is ballsy and means you are actually giving up any return and will accept the ball where it ends up......unless you have an incredible return guy. That brings to mind: When Kennison was here we should have done an attempted punt block on every punt b/c he did better returning punts when there was no blocking! Also when you are "notorious" for having a good special teams it is going to make the other team nervous as hell. Case in point, LSU last year they tried to block every single punt and did get 2 of them if i remember right. but damn near blocked every one of em. LSU's punt coverage team looked shaky on every punt trying to make sure "hurry get the snap and kick it". Just my 2 cents.......
Chris Jackson All I know is that I saw Chris when he was a soph at John Curtis in the HS championship game. He was the third team quarterback then and could concentrate on kicking. This kid started warming up from 55 yards! And he nailed everthing. I commenced to drooling right then and there thinking of him in a Tiger jersey. His kickoffs were never returned. Jackson can plain kick the ball! I hope playing 1st team QB the last two years hasn't caused him to lose anything in that leg. If there is anyone that can take over the PK chores and win ballgames it is him. GEAUX TIGERS!
LSU dosen't need a field goal kicker since they are going to score a touchdown every time they get in the Red Zone this year. :geaux: :lsug: :dis: :dis: :dis: :dis:
The last guy named Chris Jackson who played at LSU was alright. Hopefully, this guy will be too. FightinTiger is right when he says highschool kids aren't use to having that kind of pressure on them. I feel like I'm about to toss cookies during those situations and I'm just watching!
i played with a guy in high school who could hit consistently from up to 65 yds in practice and pre-game. Longest he kicked in a game was about 53.....and that was his longest attempt. he traded in the cleats for let's just say a party life after high school. Could have gone to his choice of schools but grades didn't look good coming out and fun-factor ate him up too.
