OK, I am a Laval supporter, but since you're here please follow... Weekend games in April mean much than than weekday games, .Being swept by the Pond Scum doesn't mean much if we finish in the top 5 in the SEC (as in the Super Regional will not go though Metaire) and we will finish in the top 5. I was aboard the baseball band wagon when Richard Condon was mispronouncing Uncle Bill's name and commenting that baseball was a MINOR sport. Smoke recruited the players that made the CWS an assumption in Tigertown. Smoke recruited the players that won the first CWS. Smoke's hand is on 3 of our 5 CWS titles. As folks moan about loses in March and April, I'd like to point out out our past success is due in part to Smoke (if you know about the great open field tackle he made, you MIGHT be a Tiger baseball fan). For all of your bellyachin', I want to point out that we are very much in the SEC hunt. We have the easiest schedule remaining of SEC teams with a realistic chance of winning. Check you facts, Smoke is doing great. LSU will win the CWS under this coach!
I can assure you we will not continue to hit and pitch like we did today. It's baseball, we will either slump with the bats or have games like Lane's on Friday. You just hope that when one falters, the other is there to pick up the slack.
yes, your assumption is correct - even the great teams (MLB, college, etc) go through hitting or pitching slumps over the course of the long season. however, did you ever consider that maybe LSU went through its slump early this season?
Don't forget how badly the Boston Red Sox were doing last year during the regular season! They were down three games to zero, and came back to win four for the pennant! Then they swept the World Series, taking it all in four games! YA GOTTA BELIEVE! PS I know that we've lost some SEC series weekends this season, but we've got to remember that teams can get hot.
Yes, and I guess "slump" was proabably the wrong word. What I am trying to say is that we will have games where we don't score a lot of runs and hopefully the pitching will carry us or games where our pitchers give up runs and maybe the offense bails us out, like they did Friday. But we won't pitch and hit well in every game no matter how good we are.
If LSU gets on a roll and all cylinders start clicking....we can win the freakin CWS this year. Will it happen? Doubtful but I have seen crazier ****
I think the law of averages is on LSU's side this season. Hel.l we couldn't do **** in Omaha when we were expected to, so maybe this years team will feed off of the negativity instead. Hell, look what CSF did when they turned their season around. The fact that LSU would be flying under the radar so to speak could be great for their chance at getting it done. I'm not saying that LSU WILL make it to the CWS, but I have faith that if LSU hosts a regional and wins it pretty solidly, the NCAA may shine down on us and pair us up with a "cupcake" SR. We ARE frickin' LSU for Christ's sake... :hihi::dis: But seriously, I think that if Meier starts against Tulane we get 'em easily. The fact that we scored so much off of their pitching makes me feel good. The fact we came back against two really good SEC teams makes me happy. We've been hitting team's aces A LOT better than we have been. If the lineup starts to hit from top to bottom instead of having guys on hitting streaks we'll be in good shape--obviously, but I think we COULD get it done with the way we've been hitting. What does worry me is that since our hitting has come around, our defense and pitching has gone down a notch--albeit a very small one. In baseball, especially college, you just never know. I think right now would be a critical moment for a motivational speech to the team from someone, anyone who can get them to believe in themselves even more so than now.... I'd say Skip, but I'm sure he's been talking to them all season..
Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. The NCAA pair up the super regionals when they announce the regionals. Barring a complete collapse down the stretch, LSU will host a regional. The obvious question is, which regional we will paired up with to play in the SR. As of right now, I'd guess that we would be paired up with the Tulane regional, and assuming both LSU and Tulane wins their regional, Tulane would host the SR. But there is a lot of baseball to be played before then...
