BATON ROUGE -- The LSU football team has been selected as the top team in the Southeastern Conference heading into the 2006 season in a poll conducted by the Birmingham News, the publication has announced. Link To Original Article
Wow, that's really suprising... Florida was the unanimous choice for the East, yet they didn't get as many votes as LSU to be the SEC Champion. Russell came in as the runner up for "Most Valuable Player"
Florida has to play LSU, Auburn and Alabama from the West. If Florida beats all three, I will be very surprised. The Florida-Georgia game will decide the East this year unlike the last few years. I'm still expecting Auburn to have problems on defense and will probably end up at 5-3, so I'm picking LSU for the West, with Arkansas as a sleeper.
Has anyone found the original article from the Birmingham News on this? Been serching and not having much luck. I am interested to see the whole All-SEC teams that hey picked.
You are very right. Everyone in the press seems to have forgotton Bama's complete domination of Florida last year 31-3.. Now I don't think Bama is going to be as good against them this year, but it is just food for thought. A team with a solid defense can mop up on UF..
