    which is easier to accomplish...

    1) Win six games and go to a bowl?
    2) Win 20+ basketball games during the season?

Go with your gut.... (such as it is!)

Okie Dokie, then.... seeing as I have to take off soon....

From one of the gurus on our forum... who uncomplicated the Big East by adding ND and using only schools who were Division I in both sports... of the BCS football conferences 42 schools won 20+ basketball games this year and 43 won at least six football games and went to a bowl.

The ACC had 10 of their 12 schools win 20+ games... speaks to the trend to pad your wins before conference play... by all conferences.

Remember when getting to the 20 win threshold meant something?

It seems easier to make a bowl, but LSU and Iowa have had strong football programs, and probably mostly middling basketball programs? It's definitely harder for us to make the tourney.

It has been proven many times a smaller school can produce a top 10, even national title, basketball team. The same is much more difficult to achieve with football, mainly due to cost and breadth of overall support. A football program represents a much greater effort for a school to maintain. Producing a 6 win football team simply demands much, much more from the school.

Should the schools be large and of parity, then it can be an issue of priority. Many schools, perhaps their fans, favor one program over the other. The two often do not receive relative equal treatment or attention.

All things equal, a 20 win basketball season still conveys a standard of quality that, IMO, a 6 win football team does not.

6 wins is nothing when you figure it's two-three cupcakes and 4 wins against one OOC opponent and 8 SEC opponents. I know "No wins are easy in the SEC" but even though any "Conference bottom dwellers" could upset us, they're WAY outclassed on paper and we're talking probabilities here.

    I'd say basketball.

A lot of turnover each year and their is more basketball talent out there than football. Over 100 teams won 20 games this year. You can reload and recuit easier in basketball.

However, the 12 game schedule does make it easy for football.

i'd say 20 win b-ball. less players to recruit and two or three impact players can take you far if patched in with the right role players.

of course, you'll need a coach that recruits the right players and doesn't run off the ones he has.

Before the 12 game football schedule I would have said basketball. But it's not that hard to win 6 games with a 12 game schedule in footbaw. It should be 7 games to get in a bowl.

It should be that we fill up the bowls for these money-grubbers long enough till ESPN gets tired of covering them and we go to something new.

    RPI FTW

Oh, it's easier to get 6 and a bowl. By far.
