If you had to pick a team that could beat LSU this year, who would it be? Play Devil's Advocate and make you case... This kinda pools the knowledge of the Tiger's opponents and gives everyone an idea of what LSU is up against...
Tennessee and Auburn have a real chance at beating LSU. Florida, Alabama, and Arizona State have long shots at beating LSU. Ole Miss and State could possibly beat LSU . . . if Hell freezes over. Vanderbilt, North Texas, and Appalachian State will beat LSU when pigs fly.
Nice topic. As contained pointed out, LSU is always capable of beating itself. Outside of that; ASU, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn & Alabama all have reason to believe that they can beat us. My case will be for Alabama, from their point of view. They return a lot of starters off of one of the best defenses in the country. Our offense has an inconsistent QB & just lost our top running back for the season, which means we could have trouble moving the ball against them. Also, our new head coach is offensive minded & the team will have to grow & get used to the differences. Their starting O-line is strong & their QB has shown that he could be great while healthy. We've got new cornerbacks & no longer have our corner back coach - Saban. Alabama's Croyle could exploit this & air it out. Our defensive line lost Marcus Spears & will deeply miss his presence.
I don't believeASU can doit but I would like to see what this team does from game one to game two. But giving that up Tenn would be my early pick.
This team won't turn the ball over like they did last year (LSU beating LSU). And, there will be more takeaways with LSU having the edge there. Add in the home field advantage and only 3 teams have a real shot at beating LSU assuming a rash of key player injuries doesn't happen. IMO, these three teams will be underdogs to LSU, but have a shot to beat the Tigers if the LSU offense misfires. Tennessee has the best shot & Auburn & Florida have an outside shot. The rest don't have a prayer and that includes Bama. If the LSU aerial attack gets clicking early in 2005 with huge yardage and stats including blowout wins over NT & ASU, I would not be surprised to see LSU winning the above three games handily & easily en route to greater things outside the SEC. :geauxtige :crystal:
Some are overlooking Ole Miss, but they are always a threat to beat us. As good as our team has been the last couple of years, they always seem to give us fits.
Coach O's passion also kind of has me worried, only because it can play such a big role in rivalry games. Their team won't be anywhere near as talented as ours, but we'll have to be ready to play because they are going to want it - bad.
