Convicts can have their rights restored by petition in some states.

Because the term "criminal background" doesn't have to include just felonies, as misdemeaner crimes also count towards a "criminal background". I have a criminal background... possession of alcohol under legal age (busted for it at 19), and 4th degree criminal mischief (I accidentally broke a car windshield in our parking lot at the time) and instead of allowing me to fix their window, they called the police and pressed charges. Did 2 days in county for it when I was 21.

But I have never had a domestic, or any felony ever... so I am allowed to own weapons, but still considered having a criminal background.

As for the owning a gun makes you less safe arguement, I still believe it's bullchit. I have well over a few thousand hours of shooting, training, practical real world experience, and a military background within a combat MOS... I am very well versed in weapons handling, shoot sharp shooter, and know the limitations of the ammo and weapons that I use. I suppose a freak accident could happen, but i've been handling weapons of different types for 27 years... still breathing as I post this.

Wow, the justice system failed you all the way around - from the hard ass owners who didn't allow you to pay for damages to judge who either failed to set bond or actually sentenced you. I know it was 'only' 2 days, but the times I've been arrested (no felonies), it sucked just sitting in a cell for the hour or 2 it took to bond out. I couldn't imagine ever having to spend 2 days or longer in the pokie.

Hope you still didn't have to pay for the windshield on top of everything else.

Yeh I still had to pay restitution. I got the 2 days because of the dollar amount, $216 for the window... $200 or under would've been 5th degree and just a fine.

It wasn't too bad... going to jail for any reason is never good, but it was boring more than anything. All I did was eat or sleep.

you should be able to have as much firepower as you want because the dod has firepower and we have the right to fight the military, right?

    or

you never know when 100 people will instantaneously attack you.

It's headed to .......unless you register as a Democrat and support bigger government, you won't have any rights or freedoms. Except the right for your Gov't to do everything for you.....

What brainless nonsense. What rights do democrats propose to keep for themselves alone? Fucking none.
