UGA set up a committee to screen students who have had questionable criminal charges in their past. Michael Grant was offered a scholarship well before this committee was ever in place, but they still decided to screen him and told Richt that they wouldn't give Grant a green light. Van Gorder spent hours and hours on recruiting this kid. Richt then spent a great deal of time and energy trying to find Grant a program that would offer him a scholarship to replace Grant's Georgia scholarship. Grant is now at Arkansas with Houston Nutt. Richt personally went before this committee to appeal the fairness of imposing this new criteria after the fact, but they shot him down. The bottom line was... Grant should have been grandfathered because he and the coaching staff were actively talking long before this committee was ever even thought of, and Grant was offered a scholarship before the formation of this committee was even approved.
