Glen Davis, Matt Leinart, Tyrus Thomas & Vince Young Pro Draft Effect.

Tyrus Thomas cashes in on his NCAA fame last year, Glen Davis stays for another year. How far will this drop Big Baby in the draft? How many millions will he loose over this? Matt Lienart stays for his senior year winning an NC and being a potential NFL #1 draft pick. The next year he sinks in the draft and misses out on millions of dollars. Vince Young skips his senior year, cashes in on his Rose Bowl National Championship and makes millions.

Will these recent examples have a more profound effect on on college athletics causing more players to pass up Junior and Senior seasons. What about Kevin Durrant from Texas, will he leave after his freshman year?

With the bigger, stronger and much more athletic high school senior entering college will this drive the pros to go after younger players right out of high school?

Will all of this diminish the quality of college team athelitics?

I think your example proves that it goes both ways. It's a risk one way or another.

Leinart is the only example of an idiot in your examples. If ever you are a consensus top 5 pick and you don't go PRO, you are a fool.

No. He was a guaranteed mid-to-late 1st rd pick. Now, he is probably a second round pick.

So you think he'd be drafted? He'd probably be much better off staying.

He will find out when he tests the market this year at the NBA scouting combine. We wont hear much until this process is over but I think he will show coaches what he is made of and increase his stock. I dont see him coming back with all the injuries this year.

That's true in a money-sense, but you can't blame the kid for wanting to go back his senior season to win a NC. I respect him a little more because of it, and #1 pick only means you go to the worst team in the NFL. Now he's starting QB for a team that has a future maybe.
Really though, we need more of these kinda guys that will come back their senior seasons, it makes college sports so much better.

He was far from guaranteed that. That was the highest he could've possibly gone, and after his poor performance against UCLA/gaining 60lbs - I think he'd be only slightly higher than he is now, which means very late first round at best, probably early second.

Generally, a top 10 pick should go pro. However, Matt didn't want to play for whatever team would've picked him (can't remember who it was now), so he decided to stay home & play for a NC, where his stock dropped slightly. He lost a couple million, but maybe that was worth it to him to be with a different team and stay for his senior year.

That is an interesting thing to consider. Barring injury, you aren't going to be a worse player if you stay in college. You might lose millions because of slumping hype, but regardless of when you go you're going to be making much more money than you (and most) were accustomed to, and maybe you'll end up in a better situation and last longer in the league. Interesting thing to ponder. Also, without the hype there are less expectations and less pressure and probably a better chance to succeed.

On the other hand, maybe you won't get as much playing time and then perhaps you'll progress much slower.
