Right. Just like we combined with Dinardo and Hallman for years of winning football. Anybody can coach here as long as we're around. :dis:

I tend to disagree. Saban probably would have not won a national title at MSU. He knew that he had to go to a better school and conference to win it all. Saban is the key ingredient, don't get me wrong...however, just as Saban could win the title at a number of schools, LSU could win the title with a number of different coaches out there.

I view the football program as a partnership between the coaching staff, administration, athletes, and support system (community, alumni, students, fans, etc.). All those individuals must come together to make the program successful. If all the fans didn't show the support, then the team probably doesn't play as well. Saban has referenced this many times in the past. Without Saban and his staff, we'd have some big shoes to fill to achieve the same success that we've had in the past 5 years.

My point is this...I agree with those that say the program is bigger than one coach. I totally agree. Those same people say that we will be fine if Saban leaves. I somewhat disagree. I am sure we can find another successful coach; however, we have a proven mixture that works at LSU and I don't want to see that going away to test new waters with a new staff, etc. Times change, so be it, and we'll see what he does. However, I wouldn't write off another coach coming here and being successful, not at all. Saban built a great foundation at this University. I just would rather delay having a new coach for as long as possible.

I would have to agree with FightinTiger for a change on this one.
Its not like they have as good a recruiting base in Michigan and that area
because they all go to U of Michigan.

    Sabanfan shame on you!
Saban aint the only coach that can take us where we need to go, one day
he will leave regardless of what we think and do.

You mentioned a few failures but I know there are other coaches that can
take us where we need to go.

Yeah, right. All you whining crybabies are the same ones who can't stop wailing and gnashing your teeth about Brady. You are all biiiiiiggggg LSU fans until the slightest hint of adversity pops up then suddenly you get all high and mighty and start trying to find someone to blame. Saban is a one in a million find. There are maybe 5 coaches in the entire country who can shine his shoes. Give the man credit for what he's done here and wish him well. Quit trying to act like he isn't all that. Because he is.

Why does this have anything to do with Brady?
I will point out to you using your analogy that this is a football school, You guys use
this excuse to take up for Brady meanwhile the womens team has been better than
the mens for quite a few years now. :)]
How can that happen at a football school?

If we are a football school and you guys act like we will be given the death penalty
if Saban leaves, we're going to go back to the days of Dinardo, Hallman.

I got news for you, Saban signed a 7 year deal last year.
I hope he comes back but it looks like that contract means nothing, why sign a 7 year
deal if you don't intend to follow it up.

I'm a realist here, Nick isn't looking to stay here for 7 years from this type of thing happening year in and year out.
One day maybe soon we might have to move on and get over it.

Brady is another subject for another time!
If this is a football school and we can't get the coach we want or a better coach than Dinardo and Hallman maybe we aren't just a football school after all.

Anally retentive doesn't begin to describe your attitude, man...

So you're saying that in the offseason between the '99 and '00, we were poised-as a team-to put into place a run of 4 out of 5 bowl game wins, two SEC Championships, a national title run, and all of that was due to LSU & Saban doing it together?

Give me a break...That offseason was perhaps one of the single most tumultuous around...Saban was on his radio show calling out callers asking if he was "ready for the atmosphere", etc...He was going to pull us, kicking, dragging, and screaming, if he had to, into/onto the next level...and he did it.

He did it using the help of the most talented man in higher education today, Washington Chancellor Mark Emmert. Emmert achieved this vision without the flawed "Skinflint logic" of Joe Dean...The common thread-much to Saban's chagrin-was not only the Administration, but the inept hiring practices of Jim Beam Dean.

You cannot tell me that LSU was ready for this...Mark Emmert did this almost entirely on his own...Becoming the defacto AD from the time he set foot on the campus, while still improving our image overall as an institution, and putting into place the Master Plan for LSU...available on www.LSU.edu, and setting into motion the single most ambitious plan for LSU and its future the University's seen since it settled in its current location so many years ago.

Emmert and Saban did this together...and Jenkins is to be commended for bringing Emmert on...But LSU's fanbase while yearning for the best, was honestly looking everywhere...We were just as rudderless-save for our want of a winner-as the team had been in the previous two campaigns...

    Get a life, FightinTiger...

See Urban Meyer...See Frank Beamer...See Leach at Texas Tech...See Spurrier at Duke...See Spurrier at Florida...See Bowden at FSU...See Schnellenberger at Miami...

All wonderful examples of great coaches who began at crappy universties with absolutely no facilities when they took over, no established tradition, no fanbase, and no damn support from their AD's, that's for sure...

    Teach me more, Obi-Wan...
