Since I'm one to be a little more pessimistic and pointing out flaws in the team or players, I just wanted to provide a laundry list of "Well Dones" for the team. Most Importantly the O-line: I've never seen a turnaround by a group or individuals like that. These guys were beasts against Vtech. Completely different play as compared to the MSU game. Awesome job guys!!!:thumb: Great run blocking, pass protection, sealing off the corners and great blocking on screen and options. QB play: The QB play was perfect. Flynn had a couple of passes sail on him but he settled down and was money all night on 3rd down. He made great decisions and moved when he had too to make the pass, his fakes were great. Perrilloux did awesome also. Very good decisions and great passing. The fake sweep run to the right and then pass to the end zone was awesome play call. RP sold that play for all it was worth. I can't wait to see him next year just like I'm enjoying watching Flynn play this year. WR's: With Early getting all the attention, Flynn and RP did a good job of spreading the wealth and checking off the #1 and going to others. Lafell broke out as predicted by others and showe good open field speed and running. The passing was spread out quite a bit, which is very very good. RB's: Watching all the RB's get some snaps was awesome and they all did stellar jobs when they were in. KW made an awesome run on the option and it was orchestrated perfectly by everyone. Holiday made the corner a few times and made some good yards. Hester seems to make something out of nothing. He will get 4-5 yd even if there is nothing there. Great between the tackles runner. He's a stud. I'm looking forward to seeing the stable get better and better. Crowton: Great play calling. Saw some very nice plays and unique plays that we haven't seen here before. Throwing an option in occassionally was nice, the shovel pass to Hester was awesome, good utilization of the running QB's. Running MF and RP was nice and not as prominent with Flynn as it was against MSU, which was good. The shovel passes and options were perfectly executed. The play calling was not predictable and the plays were mixed very well. The RP fake run then pass was an awesome play. Pelini: Had the defense ready to play. Was aggressive and had a perfect game plan for them. The only wrinkle was Taylor at QB. Watching him do the QB delay draw got me anxious. I'm a little worried about playing against running QB's, but I know a game plan will be formulated to counter this. In all he had a couple of good runs and that was it. Great coaching. D-Line: Fast and swarming, all over the place. You guys are amazing. Dorsey would chase plays 15 yds down the field sometimes. Great job. The QB had no time to pass and his WR's had no time to get open. DB's: They were locked down on the WR's. Amazing job and super fast. Nobody was open all night, absolutely incredible. CLM: Let the coaches do there thing, let the players play, and you had them all ready to play. Well done coach. I think I just about covered it all. Just wanted to send kudos to the team since I usually am quick to point out areas of improvement, I had to point out the much improved areas and the great play when I see it. :geauxtige
Oh yeah Mike the Tiger VI looked great on TV too and that was some good publicity for our mascot, university, and the habitat. I thought Mussberger low balled the price of the habitat at $1.5 mill. I thought it was $2mill.
i was thinking about starting a "Great job OL" myself. seems theyre not getting enough credit. by far the MVPs of the O. corners were great but i expected a lot from them. very happy with the safeties. came up to stop the run yet didnt leave receivers open--- & 2 ints. i thought the shovel pass was improvised and not a called play---anyone else?
Midway through the 1st quarter I was thinking the same thing. Not sure what happened against MooU but they got their chit together this week. Agreed. It was just a heads up play by Flynn. If anything it was not his first target.
One more thing about the OL, did anyone else notice how far downfield Big Herm followed KW on his 67-yard TD? He huffed it right down there. That's pretty impressive for such a big guy.
There was a lineman down field in front of him on that play so I am pretty sure that it was planned. I rewound it to make sure and I think I saw a big number in front of him.
I looked, too. It was likely planned since Hester had to make sure he was behind the line of scrimmage with O linemen downfield. Flynn sold the draw though.
Both RP and MF did great at selling plays. The fake hand off then MF ran a naked bootleg to the right for a 1st down. RP selling the QB sweep to the right then throwing a TD pass. That was funny stuff. Then MF's shovel pass to Hester. The offensive play was amazing. I wasn't expecting them to be that smooth, efficient and the O-line was by far the most improved and played great.
it looked improvised to me. i too was most impressed with the Oline especially in comparison to week 1 when they were atrocious. I dont think carnell stewart is long for a starting position much longer though. he would have to drastically improve for barksdale not to take over i suppose. on the second play from scrimmage i think it was when hester went for 12, I think it was lyle hitt who pulled from the RG spot and took out the DT and DE all at once absolutely hammering them. at that point i knew the line had come out with something to prove and were absolutely mauling guys. reminded me of the peach bowl against miami. also regarding the secondary, ive never seen blanket coverage on every play at all times during a game much less both. i know it cant last but it is pretty amazing to see the corners not only in step but in the guy's jock on seemingly every play.
anyone have a good idea of how arnold did? i saw him in there but dont know for how many plays? how bout the 3 true freshmen OL? much pt?
