A really good article in the Shreveport times that answers questions especially about why we weren't getting Evangel guys and other top recruits under dumbardo the last couple of years. He was burning bridges instead of building them. Saban
Impressive article. “Those with strong character and leadership skills.” I read another article somewhere but I lost the link. Coach Saban mentioned our recruit class average GPA has steadily went up. His first class GPA average in low 2 & 2004 class GPA average is 3.0. A 3.0 average for student athletic is very scary considering these young men have to spend extra time for football activity. One 2004 signee’s GPA is 4.1 with ACT score of 32. He can go to any IVY league schools. In short, Coach Saban gets what he wants. If some one finds the article, which I mentioned, please post.
By the way, I did not mean that high GPA translates to strong character and leadership skills. I would love to know other criteria which coach looks for as a LSU football player.
Saban just has the knack to reel in the good kids....let's leave it at that. We don't need to know his award winning recipe.
In LA, an "A" in honor class at a selected school is 5.0. One signee of this year class had 4.1 GPA & scored 32 on ACT. If you scored 28 on ACT, you are in a very elite class. Check out the roster of this year GPA.
They must be using a different system than when I was in HS. I don't know what my GPA was but I made mostly A's and B's but a few C's and D's in math classes would have pulled it down. My ACT score was 34 but that was over 30 years ago and I don't know if they still use the same criteria. Whatever this guy's GPA or ACT score was the big question is "Can he block, tackle, get open or cover his man deep? Can he recognize the other teams blitz package or adjust to their cover schemes? Will he be in the right place at the right time to make the big play?" If he is a smart guy who also has the physical skills to play his position that would be great.
