This is where you said that JR won't start. Stop saying that Russell won't start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP IT!!!!!! Why would he want to start the QB that gives the team the best chance to win???? :hihi:
And this is why the matter of the starting quarterback cannot be decided before summer practice. 1. We don't know the extent of Russell's injury. But he likely won't play in the spring. 2. We don't know how consistent Flynn can be over a season. 3. We don't yet know how well Perrilloux can play at this level. I think the coaches are going to let Flynn and Perrilloux fight for the position in the spring. The winner of that contest will fight Russell for the position in August. Right now, it makes no sense to advocate Russell just because he is the returning starter . . . or to advocate Flynn based on a single game . . . or to advocate Perrilloux because he was a man among boys in high school. Each quarterback has virtues. The coaches need to see then compete for the job and the most competitive QB will get it. LSU could have worse problems than two Parade All-Americans and a bowl game MVP all competing for the job.
At risk of going in circles, this doesn't mean that we can't voice our opinions on the matter, even given the fact that such is based on a limited number of observations. At every point in time, regardless of how soon or how late, each of us is going to feel a certain way about the situation. I don't believe that anyone is demanding tha Miles make a decision today, or even before the end of summer practice. The opinions of those that think MF should get the nod are just as worthless as the opinions of those that think JR or RP should start.
Sure you can. I was talking about the coaches. I don't think they have annointed a quarterback. I think Russell is the starter until somebody outperforms him but the coaches are going to give Flynn and Perrilloux every chance to do so. But it will be August before Les and Jimbo make the call. Meanwhile they will refer to Russell as the returning starter, which is proper.
