No thanks, I would take my chances with Dinardeax before ever wanting Pete Carroll. The others on your list aren't that bad but Carroll makes me want to barf.
I wouldn't take him either, but when Saban left, Bertman said he would go after a big time coach - believe it or not even Carroll is in that Elite group... Do you really think Bertman would tell Pete to "Geaux F ck himself" if he showed interest in LSU ? I just think the people on my list are head and foot above the likes of Petrino, Miles, Davis, Tuberville etc...
I hope we've at least gauged interest in Chow. The man is loyal to a fault, but has stated he wants to let his assistants take over as OC at USC - but that he "needs a job before he can leave". The man is looking for a HC gig, after 30 years of no interest. If we are giddy over Petrino, we should at least consider Chow. Petrino has been showing off his offense 2 or 3 years - Chow has been proving it for 30+. Also, Chow has a longer and better recruiting record than Petrino has even dreamed of at this point. Whereas Petrino's offense has been called gimicky in the past - Chow's has accomplished all it has without resorting to that. It is just a solid, pro style, west coast derived offense that gets the ball to the best players when they are in a position to get it. We would have a legitimate non-stoppable offense with Chow, he has proven it for more than 30 years. Also on the Chow side: we know he has no DC or other 'staff' he has to be loyal to & bring in for his own...he is the most likely candidate out there to keep everyone on the staff in tact. He is famously easy to get along with, and have no doubt Jimbo and Will will love working for him. He would be a boom for Jimbo to learn from, I'm quite sure Jimbo would love to learn from him for a few years -his resume would skyrocket if he did. I consider Norm Chow a serious candidate, and one I'd LOVE to have.
I am in total agreement with you... Norm Chow is a front runner for me, but rumor has it that BYU is trying to court him back to Provo as a head coach. If he is loyal to a fault we have no chance. I couldn't imagine the likes of Russell, Flynn, and Perriloux (would be stupid not to come with Chow, considering his Heisman resume), but Bertman also said he wants someone with HC experience which may mark Chow off the list.
Norm chow I posted a message about chow on another tiger forum. I asked if we were even going to interview him. It didnt go over well, lol. I think we would be stupid not to take a look at him.
No no..he is not interested in BYU. That is because he was loyal to them for 30 years. For 30 years he never entertained offers from other schools, even though they were interested. He wanted to raise his kids in Provo and provide a stable environment (and he actually meant it). One year before Edwards was to retire, a good portion of the Athletic dept. was purged. The new AD told him privately he was not being considered for the HC gig - so he up and left. He did this very quietly, because he's a class individual. He landed at NC State and made Rivers into a Freshman All American. Carroll strolled in and told him 'I'll make you a head coach within 4 years". He took the opportunity because he wanted to move back west. Well...now that BYU sees how badly they screwed up, they want him back. But he is not interested in that job (call it spite, I call it karma). He gave them 30 years, they gave him jack squat. He was interested in the Stanford job, and interviewed for it, but the AD hired his lifelong friend Walt Harris (ironically enough, because he wanted an 'exciting offense'). He turned down Kentucky saying it wasn't right after that. This is one of the most cerebral coaches in the country, and is very calculated and focused. If he made a committment at LSU to be the HC, you can bet the farm on it that he would fulfill his contract. We would win another MNC if Chow came aboard, I have no doubt.
Thanks for the info, I had no idea BYU screwed him over so bad... somebody call Skip and tell him there is a goldmine in LA right now.
Seems to me that if you want loyalty, integrity, great x's and o's, good program, good recruiting, then Norm Chow is the man to keep us at the top for a long time.
